IFTDA urged Mumbai Police to act after paparazzi invaded Dharmendra’s privacy during his illness.
IFTDA Files Police Complaint Against Paparazzi for Violating Deol Family’s Privacy
The Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has approached Mumbai Police over the recent actions of certain paparazzi and online media outlets, accusing them of violating the Deol family’s privacy while veteran actor Dharmendra was unwell. The organisation has sought strict intervention to curb what it described as unacceptable behaviour by those covering the actor’s condition.
In a formal complaint submitted to the Senior Inspector of Juhu Police Station, IFTDA President Ashoke Pandit expressed concern over how some photographers and digital platforms handled the situation. According to the letter, the individuals involved “breached privacy” by entering Dharmendra’s residential premises and “recording footage and images of his family members without consent,” which were later circulated online. The association described the conduct as “inhuman” and “unethical,” urging police to take appropriate action and set a strong precedent.
Dharmendra, 89, had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai for a brief illness and was discharged recently. The heightened attention around his health prompted significant media presence outside the Deol residence, leading to growing public criticism of paparazzi behaviour.
Earlier on the same day the complaint was filed, actor Sunny Deol confronted photographers waiting outside his home. Clearly distressed, he told them, “Aap logon ko sharam aayni chaiyeh… Aapke ghar mein maa-baap hain, bacche hain….” He folded his hands while addressing the media, expressing frustration over their persistence during a sensitive family moment.
Several film personalities echoed concerns about the treatment of the Deol family. Filmmaker Karan Johar described the situation as a “media circus” in an Instagram Story, adding that it was painful to witness a lack of basic “courtesy and sensitivity.”
Madhur Bhandarkar also appealed for restraint, writing, “It’s high time for the media to respect the Deol family’s personal privacy. Let’s offer them the peaceful space they truly need, especially during challenging times.”
Dharmendra is currently recovering at home and his family is taking care of him.
