Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in Baramati on Wednesday following the tragic death of the NCP leader in a plane crash.

Ajit Pawar, 66, and four others on board a chartered aircraft were killed when it crash-landed near Baramati airport in Pune district on Wednesday morning.
Pawar had departed from Mumbai at 8.10 am to attend four rallies across Pune district for the February 5 zilla parishad elections. The aircraft disappeared from radar around 8.45 am and crashed a minute later.

The other victims included Captain Sumit Kapoor, an experienced pilot with 15,000 flying hours; co-pilot Capt. Shambhavi Pathak, who had 1,500 hours; Personal Security Officer Vidip Jadhav; and flight attendant Pinky Mali. The Learjet was cleared to land at Baramati after a go-around due to poor visibility but reportedly did not provide a read-back to Air Traffic Control before bursting into flames on the edge of the runway.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has taken over the probe.
Ajit Pawar is survived by his wife Sunetra, a Rajya Sabha member, and two sons, Parth and Jay. The Nationalist Congress Party, which he led in alliance with his uncle Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP), expressed grief, along with President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several other leaders.
The Maharashtra government has declared a three-day state mourning till January 30, with the national flag at half-mast.
Pawar’s last rites will be held with full state honours on Thursday at Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati at 11 am, with PM Modi and Shah expected to attend. Sharad Pawar also visited the crash site and the medical college where Ajit Pawar’s body was taken.
