Liam Livingstone to Captain Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred

Liam Livingstone to Captain Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred

The hard-hitting all-rounder Liam Livingstone will be leading the Birmingham Phoenix Men for the 2025 edition of The Hundred.

He will be succeeding former teammate Moeen Ali in the role, who will be skipping the Hundred as part of his retirement from domestic cricket.

Livingstone is the highest run-getter for the Phoenix across four seasons and will aim for a comeback after White-ball career after a poor Champions Trophy.

Livingstone led the ODI team in the absence of Jos Buttler in the West Indies last year. He has been picked by RCB and working with players like Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya, Rajat Patidar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be named as Birmingham Phoenix captain this year. Edgbaston has been my home ground from the start of The Hundred and the support we’ve received over the first four years has been fantastic. Moeen has done a brilliant job so far and I hope to carry on where he left off to take this team forward,” said Liam Livingstone.

“The squad is looking in great shape with a mixture of local lads in Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley as well as international quality with Ben Duckett and the New Zealand pace attack. We’ll be doing all we can to bring that trophy home to Birmingham for the first time this summer and entertain our fans with some exciting cricket,” said Livingstone.

Birmingham Phoenix has retained most of their players from the last season including Tim Southee and Adam Milne and also setting on Trent Boult as the direct overseas signing.

Phoenix has also added Joe Clarke as the opener Wk-option and also brought back Tom Helm during the draft.

Apart from the Phoenix, a couple of other team’s will be looking for a captain for The Hundred 2025. London Spirit picked the veteran kiwi Kane Williamson as the new captain after releasing Dan Lawrence, who then was acquired by the Northern Superchargers in the draft.

The 2022 Champions Trent Rockets are yet to name their captain after Lewis Gregory was released as well, who joined the Manchester Originals during the draft last week.
