An IndiGo flight from Lucknow to Delhi was delayed on Friday after a bomb threat alert triggered a major security response at the airport, officials said, reported the PTI.
Following a thorough inspection, officials said that the threat was a hoax and no explosive material was found on board.
The flight was carrying around 180 passengers and was scheduled to depart at 10:45 am.
According to officials, the crew received information about a possible bomb threat shortly before the aircraft was due to depart from Lucknow Airport, the news agency reported.
As a precaution, the aircraft was moved to a secure area and held back while security personnel carried out detailed checks of the plane and surrounding areas, the news agency reported.
Suspicious note found in lavatory
Sources told the PTI that the alert was triggered after a tissue paper bearing the word “bomb” was discovered inside one of the aircraft`s lavatories.
The discovery led to immediate security procedures being activated, causing concern among passengers and airport authorities.
However, subsequent inspections found no bomb or any hazardous substance on board.
Officials said that the aircraft was thoroughly searched and declared safe after security agencies completed their checks, according to the PTI.
Further legal and security procedures were initiated to determine the source of the hoax threat.
The officials have not yet disclosed whether any suspect has been identified.
