Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Suhas Kamble, who has spent over three decades in healthcare, has entered active politics, winning ward no. 8 of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in the Scheduled Caste (A) category. He defeated three-time corporator and former standing committee chairman Seemant Savale by 256 votes, polling 12,618 votes to Savale’s 12,362.
A pioneer in joint replacement surgery, Dr Kamble has introduced MAKO robotic-assisted joint replacement technology to the city. He said the COVID-19 pandemic prompted his decision to enter politics, as it underscored the crucial role of policy and administration in shaping public health outcomes.
“The pandemic changed my perspective. It was a period that tested the limits of both healthcare systems and civic administration. As doctors, we are trained to take swift, life-saving decisions in emergencies,” he said.
