Pretorius, Ferreira and Qeshile Makes ODI Debut

PAK vs SA 1st ODI Playing 11: Shaheen Afridi-led Pakistan will square off against Matthew Breetzke-led South Africa in the 1st ODI match on November 04 at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

Pakistan secured a 2-1 win in the T20I series and will be aiming to replicate the success in the ODI format also. This will be the first assignment for Shaheen Afridi as full-time Pakistan’s ODI captain.

Both sides have met on 87 occasions in ODI, where Pakistan has won on 34 occasions, while South Africa has 52 wins, with one game ending with no result.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Speaking at the toss, Shaheen Afridi said, “We will bowl first. It’s fresh (the surface); it’s been a long time since an ODI was played here. It’s a good opportunity and responsibility, I will try to enjoy and give confidence to the players. Everyone is looking forward to the series.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Breetzke said, “It looks a bit dry, and we have heard that the dew comes in later, so we will have to assess in the first ten overs and then take it from there.”

“We have taken a lot of lessons from the T20I series, but we have done well in the format in the past few months, and we will take confidence from that. We have three debuts – Pretorius, Ferreira and Qeshile come into the side. We have two spinners in Fortuin and Linde,” concluded Matthew Breetzke.
