In Maharani season 2, Huma Qureshi’s character Rani Bharti made her comeback to the OTT, being just as driven, powerful, and ambitious. The season’s setting changed from the center of Bihar’s political landscape to the nation’s political capital, Delhi. The season sees her battle with Prime Minister Shree Sudhakar Sriniwas Joshi, a character played by Vipin Sharma.
After she was accused of murdering Governor Govardhan Das by Prime Minister Joshi, she gave up on her position as the Chief Minister, naming her daughter Roshni (Shweta Basu Prasad) as her replacement. After that, she became determined to be the next prime minister of the nation.
Alliances fade, family experiences drifts
However, Rani’s life started going south, as her alliances and family started drifting away. Not only did Kaveri and Mishra lose faith in her leadership due to miscommunication, but her familial tensions also began to rise. Rani’s son, Jai, falls in love with the daughter of the Home Minister, whose family presents a very difficult political condition to agree to the marriage. Roshni must resign as the CM, letting Jai take over the seat.

However, the real heartbreak is experienced by Rani when she learns about the death of Jai, along with his friend Rishi Agrawal, under mysterious circumstances.
Later, Rani’s youngest son, Surya (Darsheel Safary), finds out through the home minister’s daughter that the postmortem reports were false, and Jai was instead murdered.
In the last few moments of the series, we see the transformation of Rani from an aspiring politician to a wronged mother, looking for revenge. When PM Joshi visits her home along with her wife, she tells him, “Main tujhe chhodungi nahi,” declaring her lookout for justice and revenge.
