“Shah Rukh Khan is probably one of the most famous men in the world,” Sabyasachi Mukherjee reminded the press at the Met Gala 2025.

Fashion’s most iconic night, the Met Gala 2025, is officially underway in full glamour. This year is extra special for India as the “King of Bollywood”, Shah Rukh Khan, has finally made his much-anticipated debut on the Met Gala blue carpet. In a historic moment, he became the first male Indian actor to walk the famed steps, donning a majestic Sabyasachi ensemble.

While Shah Rukh Khan’s fans across the world were glued to their screens, some red carpet hosts astonishingly failed to recognise his global stardom. Speaking to the press, Shah Rukh humbly said that the most exciting part about walking the Met Gala was knowing his kids were watching him from home. But SRK’s designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, wasn’t about to let go of the underwhelming recognition. He made sure to set the record straight.

“Just to give you a little context, Shah Rukh Khan is probably one of the most famous men in the world, and his fan following is legendary. We nearly had a stampede outside the hotel when we stepped out. When you have a man like this on the red carpet, especially when the theme is ‘black dandyism,’ representation becomes everything. We wanted to present Shah Rukh Khan as SRK and no one else,” he said.

Listening to him, the interviewer responded warmly, “Shah Rukh Khan, you look fantastic, and I hope your kids are proud of you.”

Shah Rukh Khan also spoke to a reporter about his look for the night. “My designer, Sabyasachi, he thought of it, and thought of it as an expression of freedom and trying to be resolute and resilient against things that can oppress you.”

When asked, “Have you ever heard of this, or had ideas before but never tested them?” SRK admitted, “Honestly, no, but I’ve learned a lot in the last 20 days. I got to understand what it was about. And as an actor, I found it fascinating how the resolve to bring about change doesn’t rely on oppression or anger, but instead, channels the exuberance of art. So, yeah, it was truly marvellous.”

For his debut look, Shah Rukh Khan perfectly embodied the theme “Tailored for You” in an all-black ensemble. He looked dashing in a Sabyasachi-designed, floor-length black trench coat, layered over an unbuttoned shirt. His look was accessorised with bold, chunky jewellery from choker chains to a statement diamond-studded pendant emblazoned with the letter “K.” To elevate his appearance even further, SRK walked with a cane, adding an oomph factor to his power look. The Met Gala 2025 is being held at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
