Earlier today, a report started doing the rounds that Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be bankrolling and beginning work on Rowdy Rathore 2 next year. Apparently, the Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazar maker has roped in Kannada director Prem who’s currently busy with his pan-Indian film, KD – The Devil. The first part of Rowdy Rathore starring Akshay Kumar had released in 2012 and was directed by Prabhu Deva. The report further stated that the story of Rowdy Rathore 2 has already been locked and that casting for the same will begin from summer next year.
However, News18 Showsha has now exclusively learnt that there’s little truth to the story. According to an independent source, “The news about Rowdy Rathore 2 is exciting enough to make rounds in the media but no such development has happened at the production house’s end.”
Talking about how even the director is yet to be zeroed down upon, the source adds, “There are many names who have been wanting to be associated with the mega project, which is touted to be one of the most massy films of all times but unfortunately, there’s no progress so far in that direction.” Earlier, speculations were rife that Anees Bazmee will be taking the directorial reins from Prabhu Deva for the film.
Speaking to us exclusively, Anees had shared that the film is still at a very nascent stage. “Talks are going on. When it’s the right time to announce, we will,” he had said. On a related note, there’s still no confirmation on whether Rowdy Rathore 2 will be direct or a spiritual sequel to the 2012 film co-starring Sonakshi Sinha.
For the unversed, the aforementioned Pinkvilla report had a source commenting on Akshay’s return to Rowdy Rathore 2 and said, “We shall know that at the right time. It could be Akshay Kumar, a new hero or who knows, a two-hero film too.” Meanwhile, however, SLB is busy shooting for Love & War that stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. A while back, he had also announced Heeramandi 2.
