Shanthi Priya, who shared screen space wth Akshay Kumar in his debut film Saugandh, recently made a bold statement on Instagram. The actress challenged beauty norms as she posted a series of photos showcasing her shaved head.
In her latest Instagram post, Shanthi Priya embraced a bold look by shaving her head and wearing a brown blazer that belonged to her late husband Siddharth Ray, who passed away in 2004. She completed the look with matte makeup, smoky eyes, and a chunky gold earring.
Sharing these pictures, the actress wrote, “I recently went bald and my experience has been quite something. As women, we often set limitations in life, go by the rules and even keep ourselves caged. With this transformation, I have set myself free, free from limitations and intending to break the beauty standards that the world has set upon us and I do it with a lot of courage and faith in my heart!”
She added, “Today, I also carry the memory of my late husband close, in his blazer that still holds his warmth.”
Shanthi Priya’s look has left the internet divided. While many of her supporters dropped hearts in the comments section of the post, applauding her bold move, some have criticised her for the same. A user wrote, “Long hair is beauty of South Indians, and you have done this?”
The actress recently spoke about her look to Times of India and shared that she did have doubts about her bald look initially as the film industry has set a way in which heroines should look: Glamourous, flawless, with long and flowing hair. She also feared if her move will have an impact on her work. She said, “I asked myself, am I going to let fear dictate my choices?” The actress eventually went ahead with her decision and said that she made a statement by going bald that she is not here to fit into a mould.
Shanthi Priya, 55, was last seen in the Tamil film Bad Girl.
