Shreya Ghoshal has criticised singers who don’t sing live during their concerts. She said that lip-syncing is a lazy approach that does not need effort. She recently appeared on Raj Shamani’s podcast and spoke about how singers need to work hard on their craft every day instead of taking their popularity lightly.

Shreya Ghoshal said, “That’s just a lazy act. Apne mehanat nahi kari (You haven’t put in the hard work). In my personal opinion, it’s not a good approach.” She also spoke about another approach where singers aren’t consistent in their live performances.

She said, “I can’t discredit what the audience likes, but I have certain principles as an artist. I have a problem with any performance of mine being played publicly that I myself wouldn’t even be able to listen to. For me, that is extremely humiliating and insulting.”

Shreya mentioned, “An artist should feel uncomfortable if a song or live performance of theirs is being played around that has already failed. You’ll always think, ‘Why did I do that?’ Either you work hard on your craft because you’ve earned that crown or throne — don’t take it lightly, thinking you’ve already achieved it. You have to work hard every single day.”

Few contemporary singers have left as deep and lasting an impact on Indian music as Shreya Ghoshal. With her velvety tone and emotional range, she has become one of the most celebrated playback singers in Indian cinema. Over the years, her voice has defined romance, heartbreak, devotion, and celebration for millions of listeners.

She began training in Hindustani classical music when she was just four. Her big break came when she won the popular television singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma as a teenager. Shreya’s playback debut came in 2002 with Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Impressed by her performance on television, Bhansali gave her the opportunity to sing for the magnum opus starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Her songs “Bairi Piya,” “Dola Re Dola,” and “Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka” became instant classics. For Devdas, she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer and a Filmfare Award. In an industry that constantly evolves, Shreya Ghoshal has remained relevant without compromising on quality. Her voice continues to be the first choice for filmmakers when it comes to soulful melodies and grand musical compositions.
