Susan Polgar takes cheeky jibe at FIDE for disqualifying Magnus Carlsen for wearing jeans | Chess News

Susan Polgar has taken a cheeky jibe at the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for disqualifying Magnus Carlsen from the ongoing World Rapid Chess Championship for violating the dress code.

On Saturday, Magnus Carlsen has been disqualified from the World Rapid Chess Championship in Round 9 due to a dress code violation (jeans) and previous warning. However, in an interview, he said he is no longer playing the World Blitz Championship either, and instead going on vacation.

Polgar posted a photo of herself enjoying jet ski and wrote on X: “My dress code is completely inappropriate and unacceptable for FIDE World Rapid/Blitz Championships! I accept full responsibility for my outfit and will not appeal the published rules!”

Magnus Carlsen also posted a photo of him donning the jeans with a caption: “OOTD.” The term OOTD stands for “Outfit of the Day.”

Magnus Carlsen was fined $200 for wearing jeans before Chief Arbiter Alex Holowzsak disqualified him for repeated violation.

FIDE has issued a statement regarding Magnus Carlsen breaching violating the dress code during the ongoing World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2024.

“Today, Mr. Magnus Carlsen breached the dress code by wearing jeans, which are explicitly prohibited under long-standing regulations for this event. The Chief Arbiter informed Mr. Carlsen of the breach, issued a $200 fine, and requested that he change his attire. Unfortunately, Mr. Carlsen declined, and as a result, he was not paired for round nine. This decision was made impartially and applies equally to all players,” read the statement.

In an interview with “Take Take Take,” Carlsen has made it sure that he is pulling out of from the World Blitz Championship and will go on vacation.

“No, I haven’t appealed.  Honestly, I’m too old at this point to care too much,” he said.

“If this is what they want to do, I guess it goes both ways, right? Nobody wants to back down and this is where we are. It’s fine by me.  I’ll probably head off to somewhere where the weather is a bit nicer than here.”
