“You Can’t Win Games” Joe Root’s Defends Jamie Smith’s Abysmal Dismissal

“You Can’t Win Games” Joe Root’s Defends Jamie Smith’s Abysmal Dismissal

England batter Joe Root has defended teammate Jamie Smith despite being criticised for his dismissal during the final test of the Ashes 2025/26 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The wicketkeeper’s reckless dismissal late on day two of the New Year’s Ashes Test at the SCG has drawn criticism among the cricketing fraternity. England has been well balanced at 5/323 with less than ten minutes remaining before lunch when Steve Smith fell into an obvious trap. Facing Australian part-timer Marnus Labuschagne, Jamie Smith backed away to a short delivery and hit it straight to deep cover, where six fielders were stationed on the boundary. Joe Root scored a commanding 160 runs in the first innings, said Smith’s intent was to maximise scoring before Australia took the second new ball, rather than simply seeing out the session. “You go into a second new ball and you saw how it reacted. It was completely different,” Root said after stumps. “It was about maximising that ten-over period ahead of facing that new ball. You eke out an extra 20 …

(PTI file photo) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday rejected remarks made by the spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on incidents in India, saying Pakistan’s own record on the treatment of minorities speaks for itself. While responding to media queries regarding remarks of Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi alleging persecution of minorities in India, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that New Delhi firmly rejected such remarks, which came from a nation whose abysmal record on this front speaks for itself. He said that Islamabad’s treatment of minorities is a well-established issue, and no amount of finger-pointing will obfuscate it. “We reject the reported remarks from a country whose abysmal record on this front speaks for itself. Pakistan must focus on its own abysmal human rights record, says MEA

India on Wednesday strongly condemned Pakistan’s remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s participation in the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, rejecting them “with the contempt they deserve”, news agency PTI reported. India also urged Pakistan to focus on its own “abysmal human rights record” rather than lecturing others. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, responding to questions during a media briefing, said Pakistan had no moral standing to comment on India’s internal affairs, especially given its own history of “bigotry, repression, and systemic mistreatment of its minorities”. “We have seen the reported remarks and reject them with the contempt they deserve. As a country with a deeply stained record of bigotry, repression, and systemic mistreatment of its minorities, Pakistan has no moral standing to lecture others. Instead of issuing hypocritical statements, Pakistan would do well to focus on its own abysmal human rights record,” Jaiswal stated. Pakistan had expressed “deep concern” over the flag-hoisting ceremony, held on Tuesday, which marked the completion of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple`s construction, PTI …

The Waqf (Amendment) Act came into effect last week. (PTI Photo) India on Tuesday sharply rejected Pakistan’s “motivated and baseless” comments on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which came into effect in India from April 8. The Ministry of External Affairs said Pakistan had no locus standi on India’s internal matter and should look at its own abysmal record on protecting the rights of minorities. “We strongly reject the motivated and baseless comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act enacted by the Parliament of India. Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on a matter that is internal to India. Pakistan would do better to look at its own abysmal record when it comes to protecting the rights of minorities, instead of preaching to others,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a statement. The Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, which was cleared by both Houses …

2nd Time In 147 Years: Pakistan Hit New Low With Abysmal Run Leak vs England

Pakistan stare at another crushing defeat, with England now in the driving seat in the Multan Test. Despite scoring a mammoth 556 in the first innings, Pakistan still have a mountain to climb after England piled 823/7d to take a huge lead in the first innings. Harry Brook and Joe Root put on 454, the highest partnership for the 4th wicket in the history of Test cricket. Brook (317) and Root (262) enjoyed a run-feast on a flat Multan stadium pitch, both knocking career-best scores. On the other hand, the Pakistan bowlers scripted an unwanted record after Brook and Root scripted the fourth biggest partnership in Test cricket. For the first time in 20 years and only for the second time in the 147-year rich history of Test cricket, as many as six bowlers conceded more than 100 runs in an inning. The sextet of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Aamer Jamal, Saim Ayub, Abrar Ali and Salman Ali Agha has now joined former Zimbabwe stars Douglas Hondo, Tinashe Panyangara, Tawanda Mupariwa, Elton Chigumbura …
