Record creating referee who once left career in advertising

Record creating referee who once left career in advertising

As Tori Penso blew the whistle alongside her assistants Brooke Mayo and Kathryn Nesbitt ahead of the Group A match between Czechia and South Africa at Atlanta Stadium, it was only the second time a woman referee had officiated in a men’s FIFA World Cup match, and also the second time an all-woman trio had done so. At the 2022 Qatar World Cup, French referee Stéphanie Frappart became the first woman referee to officiate in a men’s FIFA World Cup match when she took charge of the group stage match between Germany and Costa Rica. Penso, 39, is one of two female referees assigned by FIFA for this World Cup out of a total of 52 referees, with Mexico’s Katia García being the other. Before making a career in refereeing, Penso worked as a marketing professional in an advertising agency. “There were no full-time female referees in the States, and so I didn’t really see it as a career. I did understand, though, that it was more than just a temporary job for me, and …

How moving the advertising boards helped Sunderland halt Arsenal juggernaut | Football News

In the higher echelons of the English Premier League, teams and managers often have to think outside the box for any little edge they can get, and if the opposition is leaders Arsenal who are on a 11-match winning streak, any little advantage is of value. Hence, ahead of Saturday’s home game against the Gunners, Sunderland decided to move the advertising boards around the edge of the playing area at the Stadium of Light closer to the touchline so that it became difficult for the visiting team to launch long throws. Arsenal’s set-play prowess is the talk of football circles, and apart from free-kicks and corners, they also do a lot of drills on long throws. This, and attention and implementation of other details, worked to an extent as Sunderland ended Arsenal’s winning streak by getting a 2-2 draw after an 94th-minute equaliser, and staying among the top teams in the league so far. Story continues below this ad Bringing the advertisement boards closer to the touchline to limit the amount of space Arsenal players …

Brand SRK: Advertising gurus weigh in on why Shah Rukh Khan has been as successful a brand ambassador as a movie star | Bollywood News

Before Shah Rukh Khan went full throttle looking for love (read: Koi na koi chahiye pyaar karne wala) in his 1992 big-screen debut Deewana, he had already entered our homes and hearts with intimate television shows like Fauji and Circus on DD National. If watching him as Abhimanyu Rai and Shekharan Rai respectively wasn’t enough, we also relished quick glimpses of him in blink-and-miss commercials in between. Back in 1998, we saw a 24-year-old Shah Rukh adjusted his headband and gave a hat tip to Sylvester Stallone’s ultimate underdog Rocky Balboa as Survivor’s  definitive sports anthem “Eye of the Tiger” set the tone to his sprint. But before bolting into his victory lap, Shah Rukh pulled out his Liberty shoes from under the bed. At that point, when he leaps and lands on his feet, we couldn’t help but laud the shoes, not knowing then that it was always the man. In Major Ruling, Judge Finds Google ‘Willfully Acquired and Maintained Monopoly Power’ Over Digital Ad Market

In Major Ruling, Judge Finds Google ‘Willfully Acquired and Maintained Monopoly Power’ Over Digital Ad Market

Image: Andrii/Adobe Stock A new court ruling could change the dominant role Google has held in the digital advertising market since the release of AdWords in late 2000. On April 17, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled that Google illegally monopolized two markets: one for publisher ad servers and one for online ad exchanges. Antitrust investigators were unable to prove a monopoly in the advertiser ad networks market. Brinkema said Google is guilty of “willfully acquiring and maintaining monopoly power,” adding that “this exclusionary conduct substantially harmed Google’s publisher customers, the competitive process, and, ultimately, consumers of information on the open web.” Previous legal troubles This isn’t the first time Google has been investigated for antitrust violations. In 2020, 10 US states — including Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah — sued the company, accusing it of partnering with Facebook to illegally manipulate online advertising auctions. In August 2024, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google held an illegal monopoly in the online search market. Specifically, this …

SEBI Directs Intermediaries to Use Registered Contact Details for Advertising on Social Media Platforms

SEBI Directs Intermediaries to Use Registered Contact Details for Advertising on Social Media Platforms

SEBI on Friday asked registered intermediaries wishing to advertise on social media platforms like Google and Meta to register on these platforms using the contact details such as the email ID and mobile number provided to the markets watchdog. The move is aimed at curbing fraudulent activities in the securities market. This decision came after SEBI observed a rapid increase in frauds related to securities markets being conducted on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, and the Google Play Store. With increasing adoption of digital communication platforms, SEBI observed that perpetrators of such frauds are enticing victims in the name of providing online trading courses, seminars, giving misleading or deceptive testimonials, promises or guarantees of assured or risk free return etc. through various social media platforms (SMPs). To protect investors and increase transparency, SEBI has taken steps to strengthen the conduct of registered intermediaries on these platforms. “It has been decided in consultation with Social Media Platform Providers that all SEBI registered intermediaries uploading/ publishing advertisements on SMPPs like Google/ …

Brompton G e-bike review: truth in advertising

Brompton G e-bike review: truth in advertising

It fit! Despite Brompton embiggening everything on its iconic folding bike, I was chuffed to see the new model G e-bike collapse into a compact package I could hoist onto the narrow tray inside my adventure van — the first crucial step in testing what Brompton calls “the most versatile e-bike in the world.” The G lineup is already being sold in many countries as a regular bicycle or pedal-assisted electric bike, but only the former is currently sold in the US, with the e-bike coming later this fall. All Brompton G bikes come fitted with larger 20-inch wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, fat all-terrain tires, wider handlebars and pedals, and a longer wheel-base that reduces the twitchiness I experienced when reviewing Brompton’s first e-bike and rides more like a full-sized bicycle. The G lineup represents a major change for the nearly 50-year-old British bicycle company without compromising on the features that make Brompton bicycles so desirable in the first place. $4455 The Good Incredibly versatile Ride approximates full-size bike Folds very small Lightweight The Bad …

Meta to Face €550 Million Lawsuit in Spain

Meta to Face €550 Million Lawsuit in Spain

A date has been set for Meta to face a €550 million lawsuit in Spanish court next year. The Association of Information Media, representing 90 Spanish media outlets, accuses Facebook’s parent company of violating E.U. data protection laws. Meta allegedly built its advertising empire by unlawfully collecting and using European users’ personal data without their explicit consent between May 2018 and July 2023, violating the General Data Protection Regulation. According to Regulation (EU) 2016/679, user consent must be granted before processing their personal data for advertising purposes, but Meta has ignored this. AMI contends that 100% of Meta’s revenue from targeted advertising was earned with data obtained through “systemic and massive non-compliance.” This gave it an illegitimate advantage when selling digital advertising space, jeopardising smaller media outlets in Spain. The sum being demanded is compensation for their lost revenue. AMI argues that Meta’s dominance in the industry has prevented the fair monetization of news content from media companies. It filed the lawsuit late last year, with the preliminary hearing taking place on Nov. 27, 2024. …
