Massive demolition drive in Ahmedabad, officials clear 4,000 sq metres of land

A massive demolition drive was launched in Gujarat`s Ahmedabad, officials said on Monday, adding that around 4,000 sq metres of land was cleared for highway project, reported the IANS. The large-scale demolition and encroachment removal drive in Viramgam town of Gujarat`s Ahmedabad district as part of the Viramgam-Surendranagar-Wadhwan four-lane road project, they said. The operation covered nearly 4,000 square metres of government and private land along a 400-metre stretch near Gangasar Lake. Officials said the area had become a major traffic bottleneck, affecting connectivity at the entrance to Viramgam town. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Virendra Desai said the action was taken after completing all legal formalities and land acquisition procedures, as per the PTI. According to officials, the land was privately owned and had been acquired under the prescribed land acquisition process, with compensation provided to eligible landowners before possession was taken. Desai said the stretch included three dargahs and several other encroachments that had obstructed the planned road widening work. 2 groups clash near Sanand, 30 detained: Police | Ahmedabad News

AT LEAST 30 persons were detained after two groups clashed and allegedly hurled stones at each other after a skirmish over a small issue near Sanand town in Ahmedabad, police said on Tuesday. The violence took place at Kalana village in the Sanand GIDC area on Monday night, police said. The Ahmedabad Rural Police said on Tuesday that the incident started with a fight between two bikers, which later escalated into stone pelting between the two groups. Police teams soon reached the spot and brought the situation under control. However, multiple persons allegedly involved in the stone pelting fled upon spotting the police, with many seeking refuge in nearby fields. The police then used a drone to track them down and apprehended them, detaining several for interrogation. “FIRs were registered against both the groups for unlawful assembly and rioting among other sections of the BNS, and a total of 42 persons have been detained and are being questioned. Two days after a minor was conditionally left off in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area on Saturday — leading to a 34-year-old security guard’s death — the accused’s father, who was named as the co-accused in the FIR, was arrested on Thursday even as the Ahmedabad Rural Police sought permission from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to try the 17-year-and-eight-month old as an adult. The minor, whose father is an Ahmedabad-based builder, was driving a Mercedes and had escaped from the spot after the accident, said police, adding that the car has also been taken in custody. On Thursday, the police presented the minor’s father before a local court which granted him bail, confirmed Bopal Police Inspector BT Gohil. The minor, who was detained on September 17 and presented before the JJB, was conditionally let off till September 23 on the grounds that he had to appear for his BBA examination.
