Delhi EV policy: Only electric auto-rickshaws to be registered in from 2027

The Delhi government has approved a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy that offers a 100 per cent exemption from road tax and registration fees for electric cars priced at Rs 30 lakh or less (ex-showroom), reported the PTI. The policy was approved by the Delhi Cabinet on Monday and will come into effect from 1 July. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government will invest around Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years to promote electric mobility and reduce vehicular pollution in the national capital, according to the PTI. She said the policy is a major step towards making Delhi a pollution-free city by March 31, 2030. Purchase incentives for EV buyers To encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles, the government has announced financial incentives for buyers, the news agency reported. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi for the next three days, warning of intense heatwave conditions as temperatures in the national capital are expected to rise sharply again. According to the weather department, maximum temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius till May 27, following a brief spell of cloudy weather and relatively cooler conditions earlier this week. The IMD has advised residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. Temperatures expected to rise further over next 24 hours The IMD said maximum temperatures in Delhi could rise by another 1 to 2 degrees Celsius within the next 24 hours before remaining consistently high over the following days. Minimum temperatures are also expected to increase by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius before gradually easing towards the end of the month. Smog in Delhi, where AQI has remained ‘very poor'(Hindustan Times) For the first time in years, not a single day this November logged an AQI of ‘poor’ or any better category, according to an analysis of air quality data cited in an India Today report.
