MPD-47 floats ‘congestion pricing’ for vehicles entering key city areas

Delhi’s Master Plan 2047 has proposed introducing congestion pricing in identified parts of the city, allowing authorities to levy charges on private vehicles entering areas with high traffic volumes and vehicular pressure. The proposal, which places road pricing alongside parking management as a tool to regulate private vehicle use, is part of the transport strategy outlined in the long-term planning document. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approved MPD-2047 on August 12, paving the way for the plan to be sent to the Union housing and urban affairs ministry for final approval and notification. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approved MPD-2047 on August 12, paving the way for the plan to be sent to the Union housing and urban affairs ministry for final approval and notification. Responding to a query in the Upper House, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh said the existing regulatory framework prescribes project-specific environmental safeguards as part of the environmental clearance conditions to avoid, minimise and mitigate adverse environmental impacts. The safeguards include measures related to wildlife protection, habitat conservation, pollution control, compensatory afforestation, and environmental monitoring, he said. Singh added that the approval process also involves a scientific appraisal and scrutiny, ensuring that adequate safeguards are incorporated to protect ecologically sensitive landscapes. He further said that proposals requiring Wildlife Clearance for projects located within Protected Areas, Eco-Sensitive Zones or forest areas undergo a multi-tiered scrutiny process involving the State Chief Wildlife Warden and the State Board for Wildlife. “Thereafter, the proposals are scrutinised by the Ministry and the Standing Committee …

Ensure free flow of Cauvery water till tail areas, Palaniswami urges T.N. government

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday urged the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) regime to ensure water from the Cauvery, to be released during the Kuruvai cultivation season, reached the tail areas of the river system. In a statement, he contended that even when the election campaign was on for the Assembly elections, C and D channels (secondary watercourses branching off from the primary “A” and “B” of the Cauvery system) were desilted “in haste”. This would impair agricultural activity, in view of the scheduled date of opening of the Mettur dam being June 12. Besides, the removal of silt had not been carried out properly in respect of drains. A permanent solution had to be found to tackle the sprouting of water hyacinth at the junctions of the Coleroon, Korayaru, and Vennar, and their tributaries, Mr. Palaniswami added. IndianOil says fuel supply remains adequate; shortages limited to isolated areas

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IndianOil) on Saturday said there is no overall shortage of petrol or diesel across the country, even as some fuel stations in certain areas reported temporary supply disruptions. The state-run oil marketing company clarified that the issues being witnessed at select retail outlets are localised and short-term in nature, and that fuel stocks across most parts of the country remain stable. IndianOil says disruptions caused by local demand-supply imbalance In an official statement, IndianOil said the temporary supply pressure at some outlets was due to local demand-supply imbalances and shifting customer patterns in certain regions. The company stated that a seasonal increase in diesel demand during the harvesting period has led to higher fuel consumption in several areas. It also pointed to a temporary shift in customers from private fuel pumps to public sector outlets because of comparatively higher retail prices at some private stations. According to the company, institutional and commercial buyers have also increasingly turned to public sector fuel stations as bulk fuel supplies are currently priced higher in …
