‘Shariat law not automatically applicable’: Court upholds adopted son’s right to inherit | India News

A Delhi court on Saturday upheld the inheritance rights of an adopted son of a Muslim man who passed away. According to Muslim Personal Law, an adopted child is not granted the right to inherit the property of parents. However, the Court in this case noted that the deceased Zamir Ahmed had exercised his choice under section 3 of the Shariat Act and had chosen not to be bound by Muslim Personal Law on the subject of adoption. Noting that Ahmed’s adopted son will have all the rights and privileges as his biological son, the court of Additional District Judge Parveen Singh held that “Muslim Personal Law/Shariat is not automatically applicable to a Muslim. It will only be applicable to a Muslim where a Muslim chooses /elects to apply the said law to himself by making a declaration as required u/s 3 of the Act”. The court was hearing a suit filed by one Iqbal Ahmed, the brother of the deceased man who was seeking share in his property in accordance with the Muslim Personal …

Microsoft wants to automatically launch its Copilot AI on some Windows 11 devices

Microsoft has started testing a change to Windows 11 that will see its AI-powered Copilot feature automatically open when Windows starts on “widescreen devices.” The change is being tested as part of Microsoft’s latest Dev Channel preview of Windows 11, allowing Windows testers to provide feedback ahead of a broader rollout. “We are trying out opening Copilot automatically when Windows starts on widescreen devices with some Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel,” says Microsoft in a blog post. The company doesn’t make it clear what exactly a “widescreen” device is, but the Windows 11 setting itself says Copilot will automatically open “when you’re using a wider screen.” So I’m assuming this is limited to ultrawide monitors and less traditional desktop resolutions, but I’ve asked Microsoft to clarify and will update you accordingly. The new Copilot setting.Image: Microsoft Either way, it’s another method for Microsoft to try and push its AI technology that will likely draw criticism from Windows users, and yet another thing you might have to disable in Windows if Microsoft proceeds with this …

Chrome’s password safety tool will now automatically run in the background

Google’s Safety Check feature for Chrome, which, among other things, checks the internet to see if any of your saved passwords have been compromised, will now “run automatically in the background” on desktop, the company said in a blog post on Thursday. The constant checks could mean that you’re alerted about a password that you should change sooner than you would have before. Safety Check also watches for bad extensions or site permissions you need to look at, and you can act on Safety Check alerts from Chrome’s three-dot menu. In addition, Google says that Safety Check can revoke a site’s permissions if you haven’t visited it in a while. Google also announced an upcoming feature for Chrome’s tab groups, also on desktop: Chrome will let you save tab groups so that you can use those groups across devices, which might be handy when moving between a PC at home and a laptop when traveling. Google says this feature will roll out “over the next few weeks.” The company also teased that it will bring …

Teslas will be able to automatically call 911 if you get in a crash

Tesla will release its 2023 Holiday Update next week with a few big changes, including one that lets Teslas call 911 automatically if the car’s airbags deploy in a crash. On Thursday, the company announced the update is coming next week, and it highlighted other coming features like Apple Podcasts support, rear-screen Bluetooth headset support, an updated version of the park assistance with 3D visuals, and new blind spot indicators. Apple Podcast support joins Apple Music, which Tesla added last year. Not a Tesla App reported yesterday that Tesla owners can sync podcasts with Apple devices. The site added other details about update 2023.44.25; for instance, Tesla owners won’t need a separate USB stick for every light show they want to use — now, the EVs will be able to read them all from a single storage drive. The site also writes that although the update will add B-pillar cameras to the Tesla app’s Live Sentry view, the cameras won’t record Dashcam and Sentry Mode events. A video of the blind spot indicator posted by …
