SHIV KUMAR Gautam, shooter in the Baba Siddique murder case, told police that he was motivated to gun down Siddique by wanted accused Shubham Lonkar who convinced him that he was carrying out a ‘patriotic and religious act’ in addition to being promised money and a trip abroad. Gautam further told the police that Lonkar’s gang also wanted to gun down Aftab Poonawala, who in 2022 had murdered and chopped the body of Shraddha Walkar, a girl from their community. They could not however go ahead with the plan as Poonawala who is lodged in Tihar jail had police around him. Police are on the lookout for Lonkar and his accomplice Zeeshan Akhtar who are believed to be handlers of the shooters. “Gautam told us he was working in the shop near Lonkar’s dairy and would move around with Lonkar’s gang. The Mumbai Police on Sunday established that one Shubham Lonkar, the person who had allegedly put out a social media post claiming that jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was behind the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, was a “key conspirator” in the case.
