During a meeting with Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar on Thursday, after meeting crime branch officers on Wednesday, Zeeshan also expressed disappointment that no action was taken against the guard for being unable to safeguard his father’s life.

According to a source, Zeeshan asked the police for clarity on the actions of his father’s security guard, among other things. “While initially he was agitated, we explained to him the progress we have made in the case so far. We have also taken into account the issues raised by him,” the source said.

Baba Siddique was assigned 2+1 security, which meant two security personnel during the day and one during the night. Of the two security guards, one left at 8.30 pm, following which only one security guard remained when the firing took place.

“While his statement was initially recorded by the local police based on which the FIR was registered, we have recorded a detailed statement asking him to account for his actions when the firing took place,” an official said.

Earlier in his statement to the police, Sonawane said, “When I asked Siddique’s driver to bring the vehicle ahead, one of the accused lit a firecracker-like item, which immediately set off smoke around them. My eyes experienced irritation and began watering. I thought someone had lit a firecracker in celebration. That was when the assailants opened fire at Siddique.”

After meeting the Mumbai Police top brass, Zeeshan tweeted, “My father lost his life protecting and saving the lives and homes of poor innocent people. Today, my family is broken but his death must not be politicised and definitely not go in vain. I NEED JUSTICE, MY FAMILY NEEDS JUSTICE!”
