New Delhi, The Central Information Commission has imposed a total penalty of ₹20,000 on two MCD officials, flagging “mala fide” conduct and a “misleading and incorrect” RTI reply in a case where information was furnished for an entirely different property, linked to alleged unauthorised basement use in Shastri Nagar. Coming down heavily on the officials, the CIC observed that the RTI plea “remained unattended within the stipulated time frame, in clear violation of the provisions of the RTI Act, 2005.” A penalty of ₹5,000 was imposed on the then Public Information Officer for not furnishing any reply within the prescribed period, while ₹15,000 was levied on the present PIO for providing “incorrect and misleading information” and …

At least 100 persons were on the dance floor of a nightclub in North Goa, Birch by Romeo Lane, when a fire broke out there. The commotion led many to a death trap, downstairs into its basement kitchen, where they got trapped with the staff, eyewitnesses said. At least 25 people are reported dead — 14 of them staff members, four tourists, and some locals. A young girl from the US has accused a 64-year-old Wisconsin man of sexual abuse, including being chained in a basement for several years, starved and mutilated. She told the authorities that she was given only a piece of bread to eat and forced to drink water from a puddle on the ground, PEOPLE reported. According to the court documents obtained by the outlet, David Boyd is accused of abusing two young girls when they were less than 10 years of age. The abuse allegedly began in 2020 in Brown Deer and continued until 2024 before one of the victims opened up to her foster parents about the abuse. They claimed that Boyd was their great-godmother’s boyfriend. One of the victims alleged that he took her to his home in Milwaukee, where he chained her to a pole in the basement. In a tragic incident, a massive fire erupted in the basement of Fusion Homes Society in Greater Noida West on Tuesday evening. As per the details, the fire engulfed several vehicles parked in the area. Reports indicate that 2-3 two-wheelers were completely burnt to ashes, while other vehicles suffered significant damage.  The incident reportedly occurred when children in the society were setting off firecrackers, and some of the fireworks accidentally fell into the basement which led to the incident. Residents of the Fusion Homes Society attempted to extinguish the fire immediately after it broke out. Meanwhile, the fire department was also notified about the incident. Efforts to bring the fire under control are ongoing, creating a chaotic atmosphere at the site.
