How China Quietly Made New Friends To Prepare For Trump 2.0

How China Quietly Made New Friends To Prepare For Trump 2.0

Donald Trump’s declaration in his inaugural address on Monday, that “the golden age of America begins right now,” may align with his electoral promise to Make America Great Again (MAGA). Perhaps it signals an extension of his MAGA slogan. Where MAGA focuses on reclaiming a perceived lost greatness through economic nationalism, deregulation, and “America First” foreign policy, the “Golden Age”, though boastful, could mean a forward-looking promise of prosperity and strength. It implies a renewed sense of optimism but also carries the weight of delivering tangible results in a deeply polarised nation. Why China Is Important Trump also pledged to be a “peacemaker and unifier”, which sat well with his anti-war stance. But to make America great again or birth the “golden age of America”, Trump will need more than mere slogans. Common wisdom says that he’ll need to focus on economic recovery, geopolitical stability and ever-deepening domestic division to achieve his goal. But there’s one area most important of all: managing US-China ties, the most critical bilateral relations in the world right now. The …

New Delhi: As photos and videos emerge on social media showing hospitals in China swamped with people amid rising cases of human metapneumovirus or HMPV – a respiratory illness with symptoms similar to those of a flu – there are serious concerns of another health crisis after COVID-19. Beijing however, has downplayed the developments in recent days, passing it off as an annual occurrence in winter. As international reports cautioned travelers to reconsider their travel plans to China for the time being, Beijing issued a press statement to address such concerns. China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday that “Respiratory infections tend to peak during the winter season”. Reassuring citizens and tourists, she said “I can assure you that the Chinese government cares about the health of Chinese citizens and foreigners coming to China”, adding that “It is safe to travel in China”. When asked about the overcrowded hospitals and reports of the surge in respiratory illnesses, she said “The diseases appears to be less severe and spread with a smaller scale compared …

China’s Syria bet fails: what lessons some Chinese want Beijing to learn | Explained News

The dramatic fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria has had reverberations in far-away China, which had been cultivating Damascus as an ally in the volatile Middle East. On social media, the Communist Party and the foreign policy experts who backed it have come under criticism for the failed gamble. China had made large investments in the region, which have now all but turned into massive losses. Additionally, Beijing also made long-term investments in Syrian oil and gas, totalling about $3 billion. Three major concerns Leading foreign affairs columnists in the Chinese mainstream media have …
