Who is Dinesh Trivedi? BJP leader, former minister named next envoy to Bangladesh| India News

Former union minister and BJP leader Dinesh Trivedi has been named India’s next envoy to Bangladesh as the two neighbours look to reset ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi with BJP leader Dinesh Trivedi, second left, during a rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, Saturday, March 14, 2026. (PTI File) As a first political appointee in the neighbourhood after a long time, Trivedi will replace career diplomat Pranay Verma, who moves to Brussels as the Indian ambassador to the EU. The appointment of Trivedi comes at a time when India and Bangladesh are trying to repair their relationship after the Mohammed Yunus disaster, post-removal of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a coup, with both military and police refusing to open fire on the agitators. During the tenure of Yunus, the India-Bangladesh ties deteriorated, with the chief advisor unable to contain sectarian violence against the minority community in Bangladesh. Now that the Narendra Modi government has sent Dinesh Trivedi to Dhaka, here is a look at who India’s new High Commissioner to Bangladesh actually is. …

Setback to Sena (UBT) in Pune: 5 ex-corporators of party set to join BJP | Pune News

Struggling to maintain its presence in city politics, the Shiv Sena (UBT) suffered a setback with five former party corporators set to join the BJP this week. Two of them announced their decision to leave the Sena UBT on Wednesday. The Sena UBT had 10 corporators elected to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the previous five-year term for which elections were held in 2017. The term expired in 2022. The civic elections have been delayed due to legal issues and are likely to be held in 2025. Of the 10 former corporators, Pramod Bhangire had joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after the split in the party while the remaining former corporators stayed with Uddhav Thackeray during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. A few days ago, five former corporators Bala Oswal, Vishal Dhanwade, Sangeeta Thosar, Pallavi Jawale and Prachi Alhat met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “I have made my decision and I’m firm on it. I will work for the people of the city,” said Oswal while declaring his …

Call Delhi Assembly session on Dec 19 or 20 to table CAG reports, L-G advises CM | Delhi News

Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V K Saxena on Wednesday advised Chief Minister Atishi to call a special session of the Delhi Assembly on Thursday or Friday to table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reports. Calling the delay in tabling the 14 reports a “deliberate lapse”, Saxena said the Delhi government had convened only five Assembly sessions in five years. “In the normal course, a legislature is convened for at least three sessions in a year but it is a travesty of legislative practice that the Delhi government convened only five sessions in five years,” he wrote. The L-G said that the third part of the fifth session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on December 4 but yet not prorogued. “You, being the leader of the House, in consultation with the Speaker, may convene a special sitting of the Assembly for laying these CAG reports on December 19 or December 20, given the inordinate delay in the matter and that elections for the eighth Legislative Assembly are impending,” he wrote. …

Bhojpuri to Punjabi, AAP’s Delhi poll campaign songs to have a vernacular touch | Delhi News

Bhojpuri to Punjabi, AAP’s Delhi poll campaign songs to have a vernacular touch | Delhi News

Songs in Bhojpuri, a few in the Purvanchali dialect and even a track in Punjabi — ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, the AAP is working on vernacular campaign tunes to appeal to the city’s migrant population and diverse demography, said party sources. The party is set to release its main campaign song in the last week of December. With the song’s theme being “Phir laayenge Kejriwal”, it will take back the AAP’s focus on positive campaigning, The Indian Express has learnt. An AAP source said, “We are already in the process of finalising the campaign song; we’ve received 10-12 versions so far.” The AAP is also exploring AI-generated tracks. “Among the submissions, two or three songs are entirely AI-generated, and one of them is quite outstanding,” said the source. In the previous two polls, AAP had come up with songs that resonated with the masses. In 2015, it was “Paanch Saal Kejriwal”. In 2020, “Lage raho Kejriwal” highlighted achievements such as affordable electricity, clean water, and mohalla clinics. For the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, …

Jyotiraditya Scindia: ‘We followed the world in 4G, we marched with it in 5G, but we will lead it in 6G’ | India News

AT a recent Adda held in New Delhi, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia spoke on how India is setting the trend in technology, whether the PSU telecom operators have missed the bus, transitioning from the Congress to the BJP and what sets both parties apart Modi 3.0 is a continuum of Modi 1.0 and Modi 2.0. The only change is — as the Prime Minister said to all of us — three times more mehnat, shakti and result. Immediately after Independence, the government had three turns but that was primarily because there was no Opposition in place. In a very fiercely competitive landscape, for the first time in history, a government has been returned by the people, for the people, of the people, for the third time. The outlook is to make sure that Bharat is an Atmanirbhar Bharat, Viksit Bharat and Vishwa Guru Bharat. That is the ultimate aim and we are progressing down that route in a rapid and exponential manner. On campaigning for Maharashtra polls …

It’s our Ram vs culture of Rome: Yogi’s jibe at Congress in Haryana | Lucknow News

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday accused the Congress of falsely claiming that the BJP will abolish the Constitution and reservation system if it returned to power. Addressing public rallies in Haryana on the last day of campaigning for the October 5 Assembly elections, Adityanath said, “Ask the Congress where is their ‘khata khat-khata khat’ (party’s poll promise of cash transfer to women) now? Rahul Gandhi, who championed this phrase, has disappeared from the scene.” He went on to reiterate his allegation against the Congress of being complicit with drug cartels, land and mining mafia, cattle smugglers and rioters. “Congress ka haath, mafia ke saath (Congress’ hand (symbol) is with the mafia),” he claimed. The CM said that lakhs of devotees from Kaithal and Kalayat travel to Uttar Pradesh for the Kanwar Yatra each year. “Before 2017, when there was no BJP government in UP, the Kanwar Yatra faced difficulties,” he said. About playing loud music and conches and ringing of bells during the Kanwar Yatra, he added, “If someone is bothered by these …

‘Unholy alliance’: Two BJP leaders pour scorn on Ajit-led NCP | Pune News

After the disparaging remarks by state health minister Tanaji Sawant against the NCP, now two BJP leaders have targeted Ajit Pawar’s party. In the first instance, it was BJP spokesperson Ganesh Hake who termed the BJP-NCP alliance as unfortunate. “Our alliance with NCP was unfortunate. Actually, the alliance has not gone down well with either BJP or NCP. It was an unholy alliance. During Lok Sabha elections, NCP leaders and workers were seen in the Congress camp. Is it only the BJP’s duty to follow the alliance’s dharma?” He said. Another BJP leader, Dilip Deshmukh, on Saturday said BJP and Shiv Sena were real brothers while NCP was a step brother. “Because of NCP workers, BJP workers have suffered a lot,” he said, while alleging that Ajit Pawar discriminates while giving development funds. Deshmukh said, “In Maharashtra, there is a three party government. First party is BJP, second is Shiv Sena and the third is NCP. Actually, we didn’t want NCP because BJP and Shiv Sena are really brothers. There are no two opinions about …

Two decades on, we are pleased to have finally delivered. Just 30 days after we are sworn in, the money will be transferred into your bank accounts. We must also acknowledge the linguistic contribution made by the …

BJP delegation meets Delhi poll body chief, demands verification of voters in burqa and face masks | Delhi News

A delegation of the Delhi BJP on Wednesday met the Chief Electoral officer (CEO) here demanding proper verification of women voters wearing ‘burqa’ or face masks with the help of female officials during May 25 polling. It said that the step would prevent “anti-social and anti-democratic elements” from “rigging” the election on seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital. The demand comes amid a recent controversy over BJP candidate from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat Madhavi Latha being booked by election authorities for allegedly making ‘burqa’ clad voters show their faces for verification. The Delhi BJP delegation handed over a memorandum to Delhi CEO, for verification of ‘burqa’ clad women voters on the day of polling on May 25. “Those who come to vote wearing burqa or face masks should be allowed to vote only after thorough verification through female officials,” demanded the delegation that included BJP MLAs Ajay Mahawar and Mohan Singh Bisht, state secretary Kishan Sharma and lawyer Neeraj Gupta.
