The Central Railway (CR) is planning a prolonged mega block around January 25 to facilitate the demolition of the Elphinstone Road Overbridge (ROB) between Parel and Prabhadevi in Mumbai. The demolition is a key step in clearing the alignment for the Sewri–Worli Elevated Connector, an upcoming East–West link designed to channel traffic from the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link towards the western seafront. The proposed block is likely to be scheduled between the night of January 25 and January 26, when suburban commuter volumes are expected to be relatively lower due to the public holiday for Republic Day. Railway planners, along with the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), have discussed multiple block scenarios, with a primary window of approximately 13 to 15 hours earmarked for the removal of the main girders. This will be supported by shorter blocks before and after the main operation to carry out preparatory work and finishing activities.
