Elphinstone bridge demolition: Central Railway plans mega block in Mumbai in January | Mumbai News

The Central Railway (CR) is planning a prolonged mega block around January 25 to facilitate the demolition of the Elphinstone Road Overbridge (ROB) between Parel and Prabhadevi in Mumbai. The demolition is a key step in clearing the alignment for the Sewri–Worli Elevated Connector, an upcoming East–West link designed to channel traffic from the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link towards the western seafront. The proposed block is likely to be scheduled between the night of January 25 and January 26, when suburban commuter volumes are expected to be relatively lower due to the public holiday for Republic Day. Railway planners, along with the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), have discussed multiple block scenarios, with a primary window of approximately 13 to 15 hours earmarked for the removal of the main girders. This will be supported by shorter blocks before and after the main operation to carry out preparatory work and finishing activities. The demolition will focus on the remaining 132-metre stretch of the century-old bridge that passes over active Central and Western Railway tracks. Approach …

Sonakshi Sinha hid her relationship from parents for 3 years, had to block out all the ‘noise’ during interfaith marriage with Zaheer Iqbal | Bollywood News

Actors are public figures, and their lives are usually out there for the whole world to pick apart and scrutinise. Actor Sonakshi Sinha went through something similar when she tied the knot with Zaheer Iqbal. Sonakshi recently opened up about how her interfaith marriage became a talking point for the public, and she had to block out that “noise” on her big day. While appearing on actor Soha Ali Khan’s podcast, Sonakshi was asked about why she chose to hide her relationship in those initial years. She replied, “One reason was, of course, work. When you are a female actor, most of the talk becomes about relationships and who you are dating and who you are spotted with. I wanted people to talk about my work and not my relationships. I work very hard, and I did not want to dilute it by this.” Sonakshi also shared that she did not tell her parents about her relationship for almost three years, and did not want them to find out about it from other sources, so …

Disney loses bid to block Sling TV’s one-day cable passes

Disney loses bid to block Sling TV’s one-day cable passes

A federal judge in New York denied Disney’s request to block Sling TV’s short-term passes, which give viewers the ability to stream live content for as little as one day. In a ruling on Tuesday, US District Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that Disney didn’t prove that Sling TV’s passes caused “irreparable harm” to the entertainment giant, as reported earlier by Cord Cutters. Disney sued Sling shortly after the live TV streaming service started allowing viewers to purchase temporary access to its library of channels, starting at a single payment of $4.99 for a one-day pass. Several channels included in the package are owned by Disney, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, and Disney Channel. In its lawsuit, Disney argued that the passes violate an agreement with Sling TV that says the service must give subscribers access to its content through monthly subscriptions. However, Judge Subramanian argues that this claim isn’t likely to succeed, as the contract doesn’t stipulate a “minimum subscription length,” adding that the agreement’s “broad definition” of a subscriber “clearly covers users of the Passes.” …

Google Calendar can finally block off time without faking a meeting

Google Calendar can finally block off time without faking a meeting

The latest feature update for Google Calendar allows you to block off time for tasks and mark yourself as busy, all in one place, expanding the existing Tasks feature in Calendar. It’s something Workspace users have been specifically requesting and effectively allows tasks to function like meetings, including options to set (and adjust) a specific block of time, turn on “do not disturb,” and automatically reject meeting requests. You can also add a deadline, but only the date — there’s currently no option for a deadline time. Depending on how you use your calendar, this might be what you’ve been hoping Tasks would become all along. It has had a slew of changes over the past several years, from launching as its own app back in 2018 to getting some much-needed updates recently, like integrated reminders from Google Keep and the addition of completion dates. The change is coming to all Workspace customers, individual subscribers, and personal Gmail accounts. It started rolling out to Rapid Release domains on November 6th, but could take until mid-December …

NetChoice sues Virginia to block its one-hour social media limit for kids

NetChoice sues Virginia to block its one-hour social media limit for kids

The tech industry trade group NetChoice is suing Virginia over a new law that will restrict minors from using social media for more than one hour per day. The lawsuit, filed on Monday, asks the court to block the law over claims it violates the First Amendment by putting “unlawful barriers on how and when all Virginians can access free speech online.” Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed the social media bill (SB 854) into law in May, and it’s set to go into effect on January 1st, 2026. Under the law, social media platforms will have to prevent kids under 16 from using the sites for more than one hour every day unless they receive permission from a parent. In addition to restricting access to legal speech, NetChoice alleges that Virginia’s incoming law will require platforms to verify user ages in ways that would pose privacy and security risks. The law requires platforms to use “commercially reasonable methods,” which it says include a screen that prompts the user to enter a birth date. However, NetChoice …

Residents block Minister over alleged rude behaviour by police officer

Tension prevailed in front of the Aluva railway station on Wednesday night when Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty was blocked for a while by local residents who were agitated over the alleged unruly behaviour by a police officer among the Minister’s pilot team that left a middle-aged man injured. The officer allegedly shoved the man who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The melee subsided after the man was moved to the hospital in the pilot vehicle on the Minister’s instructions. A vehicle from the Vadakkekara police station was deployed as pilot for Mr. Krishnankutty, who reached the Aluva railway station by around 9.30 p.m. Seeing the man approaching, the officer allegedly shoved him away once, and when he re-emerged, the act was repeated. Following this, the man fell in front and reportedly suffered a cut. Autorickshaw operators in the area asked the officer to take the injured man to the hospital, a request that was reportedly turned down. As the Minister emerged at this point, residents and autorickshaw operators blocked his way and informed …

Movie Review: Romance and writer’s block in bilingual rom-com ‘Jane Austen Wrecked My Life’ | Bollywood

Agathe is celibate by choice. The 30-something hero of filmmaker Laura Piani’s feature debut “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life,” played by the luminous Camille Rutherford, hasn’t so much been ruined by Austen as she has been made acutely aware of her own limitations in both romance and literature. Movie Review: Romance and writer’s block in bilingual rom-com ‘Jane Austen Wrecked My Life’ Neither she nor anyone else is good enough to make any big moves for. So, she sticks to the routine. She works at the legendary Parisian bookstore Shakespeare and Co., and bikes home, where she lives with her sister and young nephew. Sometimes she goes out to dinner. For what it’s worth, Agathe also happens to epitomize French girl chic with her Breton stripes, red pout and effortlessly disheveled hair. There should be Instagram accounts devoted to her navy hooded parka. Life isn’t bad, it’s just not moving forward. And whatever is going to get her out of this self-imposed rut is going to be something special — she’s read too many great …
