Plea in Delhi HC seeks to block release of Netflix film Ghooskhor Pandat: ‘Collective defamation of Brahmin community’

Netflix‘s upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat has landed in hot soup barely two days after it was announced by the streamer. A writ petition seeking stay on its release has been filed before the Delhi High Court, alleging that the title defames the Brahmin community and is offensive. Ghooskhor Pandat stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. ‘Film discriminates against a religious and social group’ The plea, filed by Mahender Chaturvedi through Advocate Vineet Jindal, seeks issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the authorities to restrain the streaming of the film. Ghooskhor Pandat stars Manoj Bajpayee as an errant cop nicknamed Pandat. Netflix announced the film on Tuesday during its Next on Netflix 2026 event in Mumbai. The first look teaser was then shared on social media and YouTube. FinMin has moved, but printing of Budget in North Block | India News

With just a fortnight left for the Budget presentation, it’s not just the fiscal math that Finance Ministry officials are busy with. They are also finalising the location for printing the Budget copies. While the Ministry of Finance shifted from North Block at Raisina Hill to the new complex, Kartavya Bhavan, in October last year, it has had to recalibrate plans and fall back on the old printing press facility at North Block amid “significant constraints” for installing it in the new building. It is learnt that the Ministry of Finance’s printing press at North Block will publish the final copies of the Union Budget 2026-27, to be presented in Parliament on February 1. The quarantine of officials and the printing exercise at this heritage building comes amid the commencement of restoration work for the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum at North Block, an official told  The Indian Express. “Senior officials have visited North Block several times to manage the locational hurdle. The transition to Kartavya Bhavan is not without challenges. The Budget press at …

Judge says Trump administration can’t block child care, other program money for 5 states for now| India News

A federal judge ruled Friday that President Donald Trump’s administration cannot block federal money for child care subsidies and other programs aimed at supporting needy children and their families from flowing to five Democratic-led states for now. Judge says Trump administration can’t block child care, other program money for 5 states for now The states of California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and New York argued that a policy announced Tuesday to freeze funds for three grant programs is having an immediate impact on them and creating “operational chaos.” In court filings and a hearing Friday, the states contended that the government did not have a legal reason for holding back the money from those states. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it was pausing the funding because it had “reason to believe” the states were granting benefits to people in the country illegally, though it did not provide evidence or explain why it was targeting those states and not others. The programs are the Child Care and Development Fund, which subsidizes child care …

‘With packed Pro League schedule, and World Cup-Asian Games block in mind, looking to select two separate groups’

Indian hockey is gearing up for a big challenge in 2026, with the World Cup and Asian Games separated by less than three weeks. For men’s team head coach Craig Fulton, it presents a puzzle to solve because he can’t afford to ignore one for the other. A World Cup medal has long eluded Indian hockey, while Asian Games winner qualifies for LA 2028. Speaking to The Indian Express after India’s recent block of matches plus training at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and in South Africa, Fulton elaborated on how he’s planning to tackle the upcoming schedule. Excerpts below: Every time you go to South Africa, there is something unique that you plan for the team… In South Africa, we had quite a big focus on the off-field team build and sessions with Paddy (Upton), which worked well, and the performance and the training with the goalkeeper coach also worked. We had the Lion’s Head trek. It’s quite a steep incline. It’s on the same height as Table Mountain. So now we’ve done both of …

‘They said we destroyed the franchise’: How Heath Ledger Joker backlash helped Jonathan Nolan block noise for Fallout

‘They said we destroyed the franchise’: How Heath Ledger Joker backlash helped Jonathan Nolan block noise for Fallout

In a storied career, Jonathan Nolan has adapted some of the most iconic pop culture stories, created original universes, and given us some memorable TV shows and films. His legacy of successfully adapting the ‘un-adaptable’ titles has continued with Fallout, the Prime Video series based on the popular video game franchise. The writer-filmmaker was recently in Tokyo for the Asian premiere of Fallout season 2, where he sat down with HT for a chat about the show, taking in fan feedback, and ‘tuning out the noise’. Excerpts Jonathan Nolan with Ella Purnell, the star of Fallout. How do you adapt something like Fallout? Because it’s a beloved game with such lore, such intricate lore, how do you balance between fidelity to the source material and making it your own and making it more engaging for a wider audience? Very carefully, I think, would be the first answer. But the reason we’re doing this project in the first place is that I love these games. That’s really where it comes from. For me, it comes from …

Will California try to block Hollywood’s next megadeal?

Will California try to block Hollywood’s next megadeal?

ONE OF THE truisms of Hollywood is that the industry always seems to be in crisis. Recent years have been characterised by the decline of movie theatres, the streaming wars and labour strikes. But Tinseltown’s latest drama is worthy of its own HBO show. On December 5th Netflix struck a deal to buy Warner Bros Discovery, one of Hollywood’s few remaining studios (and the owner of HBO). This annoyed David Ellison—the boss of Paramount Skydance, another bidder—enough for him to mount a $108bn hostile takeover bid. Forget “Succession”. Call it “The Merger”. The story has everything: moguls, moviemaking and, of course, politics. PREMIUM ONE OF THE truisms of Hollywood is that the industry always seems to be in crisis. Paramount hopes to convince Warner Bros shareholders that a mega-movie studio would spook federal antitrust enforcers less than a mega-streamer. It doesn’t hurt that the Ellison family is friendly with Donald Trump, a transactional president with a history of meddling in media mergers. Netflix and Paramount are focused on getting the president, the Department of Justice …
