Movie bug bit when I was seven: Ramesh Sippy looks back at ‘Sholay’ and how it all started

New Delhi, He was only seven when he visited a film set, saw his father direct and fell in love with the movies. Seventy-two years later and Ramesh Sippy is ready to weave more magic with another “Buniyaad”, taking forward the epic Partition story that aired on Doordarshan in 1986 and still tugs at the heartstrings. Movie bug bit when I was seven: Ramesh Sippy looks back at ‘Sholay’ and how it all started The son of producer-director G P Sippy and the blockbuster director of “Sholay”, “Seeta Aur Geeta” and “Shaan” said the bug bit early. A bizarre Windows 11 bug duplicates Task Manager instead of closing it

A bizarre Windows 11 bug duplicates Task Manager instead of closing it

If you’re a Windows 11 user who frequently uses the Task Manager tool, you should probably avoid Microsoft’s latest OS update. Reddit users and my colleague Tom Warren are reporting that a bug in the optional Windows 11 KB5067036 update is causing Task Manager to duplicate itself when they attempt to close the app, impacting computer performance. The bug is breaking the “X” button to quit Task Manager, preventing the app from shutting down and instead keeping it running in the background. Repeated attempts to open and close the app result in multiple instances that can eat up your CPU and RAM resources. According to the KB5067036 change log notes, the update includes a fix for Task Manager that resolves some apps not being grouped with their processes, but mentions no other Task Manager changes. Microsoft hasn’t acknowledged this new bug at the time of writing, and the KB5067036 log still says that the company “is not currently aware of any issues with this update.” We have reached out to Microsoft for further information. Thankfully, …

Google Chrome Fixes 23-Year-Old Bug That Let Sites See Your Previously Visited Links

Google Chrome Fixes 23-Year-Old Bug That Let Sites See Your Previously Visited Links

Google Chrome will soon receive a patch for a privacy bug that existed for over two decades, allowing a malicious website to identify sites that were previously visited by a user. Over the years, some web browsers previously introduced some measures to deal with the issue, but Google says that the latest fix prevents sites from using security exploits to determine links visited by a user. The fix will arrive with Google Chrome version 136, which is expected to roll out later this month. How :visited Link Partitioning Works In a post on the Chrome developer blog published earlier this month, Google revealed that it has fixed an issue with the CSS :visited selector that could reveal details of a user’s browsing activity to another site. The browser usually shows a visited link in purple instead of blue, indicating the link — on that site — it was previously clicked by a user.  :visited {  color: purple;  background-color: yellow;  } However, browsers also display the visited links with the purple colour on other websites, if …

Is Microsoft’s Update a Feature or a Bug?

Is Microsoft’s Update a Feature or a Bug?

Microsoft’s March security update became the latest and perhaps most shocking mistake in a string of installation bugs plaguing users of the company’s Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems. Despite promoting 2025 as “the year of the PC refresh” and heavily marketing its Copilot+ PCs as “the fastest, most intelligent and most secure Windows PCs ever built,” Microsoft’s latest update accidentally removes the Copilot app from some devices. Whoops. “We’re aware of an issue with the Microsoft Copilot app affecting some devices,” Microsoft noted on its support page. “The app is unintentionally uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar.” The company clarified that this problem doesn’t affect the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. The March update affects Windows 11 users as well as some Windows 10 installations — even those with an earlier Copilot update. According to Windows Latest, the move is something of a headscratcher given the high publicity push to add Copilot to every PC. While Microsoft works on a resolution, it’s suggesting that affected users simply reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store …

Apple is fixing a voice dictation bug that substitutes ‘Trump’ for ‘racist’

Apple is fixing a voice dictation bug that substitutes ‘Trump’ for ‘racist’

Apple has acknowledged a peculiar bug with the iPhone’s dictation feature that briefly displays “Trump” when someone says the word “racist.” The Verge has been unable to reproduce the issue, but it picked up attention on Tuesday after a video demonstrating the strange substitution went viral on TikTok and other social media. The company provided a statement to The New York Times and Fox News confirming the bug. “We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers dictation, and we are rolling out a fix as soon as possible,” an unnamed spokesperson said, according to Fox News. Apparently the issue boils down to phonetic overlap between “Trump” and “racist.” The company told Fox News that other words with an “r” consonant are also occasionally affected. But John Burkey, who formerly worked on the Siri team at Apple, told the Times that Trump’s name appearing “smells like a serious prank” that could have been purposefully carried out by someone internally.
