The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday carried out raids in Delhi on businessman Harpreet Singh Talwar alias Kabir Talwar and others in connection with the 2021 drug bust at Mundra port in Gujarat, in which 2,988 kg of Afghan heroin worth ₹21,000 crore was intercepted by the Directorate of Revenue and Intelligence (DRI), people familiar with the development said. According to PTI, Amol Rajendra Chamadai, who runs a steel products business, told the Wanwadi police that he received a phone call at around 4:30 pm on Monday from a person who identified himself as “Arzu Bishnoi”. While briefing the police officials about the extortion call, Chamadai said that he allegedly demanded money from him while threatening him, they said, without elaborating. A man claiming to be a “healer” and his associate have allegedly cheated a businessman from Thane in Maharashtra of ₹56.2 lakh under the pretext of providing him a herbal treatment for his ailments, police said on Sunday. Out of fear, the victim paid ₹20,000 in cash and later transferred various amounts in instalments, totalling ₹56.2 lakh, but the accused continued demanding more money. But the victim did not experience any improvement in his health after consuming the medicines. The accused later called the victim to Gaimukh Chowpatty on Ghodbunder Road in the city and allegedly forced him to consume a medicine mixed with various herbal substances, an official from Kasarvadavali police station said. The accused then claimed that the cost of the treatment was ₹56 lakh and allegedly threatened the victim with dire consequences if he failed to pay. MUMBAI: A sessions court on Thursday denied anticipatory bail to businessman Sudhir Valia, a director of Suraksha Asset Reconstruction Ltd, in a ₹1,000-crore fraud case that also involves former Yes Bank managing director and chief executive Rana Kapoor, holding that the gravity of the allegations warranted custodial interrogation. File | Photo Credit: Getty Images The Delhi Police has arrested two Haryana-based businessmen for allegedly impersonating members of the notorious Kala Jathedi gang and issuing extortion threats to a Delhi businessman, an official said on Tuesday (June 9, 2026). The accused have been identified as Rajan Kalra (26), a resident of Yamunanagar, and Sahil Garg (38), from Haryana’s Jagadhari. Three mobile phones allegedly used in the commission of the crime have been recovered from them, police said. The case came to light after Rohit Jain, a businessman engaged in the manufacture of plastic glue tapes in Bawana, approached Adarsh Nagar police station with a complaint that he had been receiving threatening calls from international numbers. Mr. Jain alleged that the callers claimed to be members of the Kala Jathedi gang and demanded money while threatening him with dire consequences, including death, if the demand was not met. Cyberabad police have arrested five members of a pseudo-police gang that allegedly kidnapped a businessman, impersonated police officers, wrongfully confined him and extorted more than ₹5 lakh after convincing him that he was wanted in a criminal case in Haryana. The accused were identified as Nagaraju Raghu Varma, who allegedly used several aliases including Karthikeya, Vamshi, Alluri Vijayaram and Karthikeya Singh, a native of Andhra Pradesh; Yeswanth Singh alias Rahul and Sathyabhan Singh alias Thakur, both from Uttar Pradesh; and Thangellapalli Nagendra Varma from Hyderabad. Two other accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar Mishra from Bihar and Sunil Kumar alias Fouzi from Haryana, remain at large. The accused were apprehended by Jagadgirigutta police with the assistance of the Kukatpally Central Crime Station (CCS) following an investigation into the incident reported by a 42-year-old businessman from Jayanagar in Kukatpally.
