Air India has de-rostered three cabin crew members for an erroneous approach in opening the door of a Boeing 777 aircraft that led to the auto-deployment of the emergency slides. The incident happened with the Boeing 777 aircraft at Bangalore airport after it landed from San Francisco on September 15. “The door of Air India`s Boeing 777 aircraft that operated flight Al 176 from San Francisco to Bangalore on September 15 was opened in armed mode when the aircraft arrived at Bangalore airport. This is a serious safety violation,” a source from the airline stationed at Bangalore airport told midday. “As a result of this, the emergency slides automatically got deployed,” the source added. This move has been taken in response to the current low travel season and reduced fleet size, keeping in mind the long-term sustainability of the organisation. The budget carrier SpiceJet is currently operating with a significantly reduced fleet of around 22 aircraft due to ongoing financial difficulties, legal challenges, and issues with lessors. Air India Express cabin crew call off strike

Air India Express cabin crew on Thursday decided to withdraw their strike and the airline agreed to reinstate 25 staff who were terminated from service, according to sources. A section of the cabin crew started reporting sick from Tuesday night to protest against the alleged mismanagement at the airline, forcing cancellation of more than 170 flights and impacting thousands of passengers at various airports. The decisions to end the strike and withdraw the termination letters were agreed upon during a conciliation meeting between the representatives of cabin crew and the airline management at the Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) in the national capital on Thursday. The meeting, which went on for nearly five hours, was between representatives of Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU) and airline management. The union is affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), an associate of the RSS. Air India Express cancels 74 flights due to cabin crew shortage

Faced with cabin crew shortage, Air India Express on Thursday cancelled 74 flights and said Air India will operate services on 20 of its routes to minimise disruptions. A section of cabin crew has reported sick to protest against alleged mismanagement at the airline, which has resulted in the cancellation of more than 90 flights since Tuesday night. “We will be operating 292 flights today. We have mobilised all resources and Air India will support us by operating on 20 of our routes. However, 74 of our flights stand cancelled and we urge our guests booked to fly with us to check if their flight is affected by the disruption before heading to the airport,” the airline said in a statement. In case their flight is cancelled or delayed beyond three hours, the carrier said the passengers may opt for a full refund or reschedule to a later date without any fees.The number of cancelled flights at 74 translates to around 20 per cent of the airline`s scheduled daily flights. New Delhi: Air India Express has sacked at least 30 cabin crew, a day after nearly 300 employees of the airline called in sick and switched off their phones, leading to large-scale flight disruptions. The number of job terminations is likely to increase. The management, sources said, has given an ultimatum to the employees to join work by 4 pm today or face action.  A total of 76 flights have been cancelled today as the disruptions snowball into a full-blown crisis for the low-cost airline, which is a subsidiary of Air India, now owned by the Tata group. The employees have been protesting against the new employment terms, sources have said. The crew, the sources said, has alleged a lack of equality in the treatment of staff. They have claimed that some staff members have been offered lower job roles despite clearing interviews for senior positions, the sources said.
