The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday approved a series of decisions aimed at governance reforms, infrastructure development, and welfare measures. A major highlight was the one-time waiver of 50% of accumulated interest on property tax arrears for 2025–26. The benefit would be passed on if payment was made in lump sum, and the deadline was March 31, 2026. Briefing the media, I&PR Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi said the Cabinet approved a resolution to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, to explicitly recognise Amaravati as the State capital, including areas under the APCRDA Act. In a pro-livelihood initiative, quarry leases would be preferentially allotted to Vaddera societies with a 50% concession on premiums and fees. About 15% of quarries would be reserved, restoring opportunities to the community affected by earlier auction policies. The Cabinet permitted SRM University at Neerukonda to construct buildings up to 60 metres, relaxing existing norms to support modern infrastructure, while mandating strict fire safety compliance. Image Source : X New cabinet approvals The Union Cabinet on Monday approved the continuation and restructuring of the Central Sector Scheme ‘Skill India Programme (SIP)’ till 2026 with an overlay outlay of Rs 8,800 crore from the period 2022-23 to 2025-26. As one of the major reforms, a new railway division at Rayagada is also approved. Additionally, the National Commission for Safai Karmachari is extended for three more years from April 2025 to March 2028.  Briefing reporters after Union cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the approval underscores the government’s commitment to building a skilled, future-ready workforce by integrating demand-driven, technology-enabled, and industry-aligned training across the country. The new MSP of Rs 5,650 per quintal will yield a 66.8 per cent profit for the producers. The MSP rates will strongly benefit West Bengal, Assam, Bihar etc. While announcing Cabinet decisions, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “Jute production is based on a variety of conditions and it is finding acceptance as a sustainable product. We have continuously encouraged farmers in jute production and we assure to buy at MSP.
