Senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy on Friday resigned from the post of minister, a few days after he took oath in the DKS-led cabinet in Karnataka, expressing displeasure over allocation of portfolio. The minister said he wanted the Bengaluru Development portfolio but was made minister for Major and Medium Irrigation projects. The resignation comes after Chief Minister DK Shivakumar allotted the portfolios on Thursday night. “I am resigning from my post because I cannot work against my conscience,” Reddy said at a press conference here. This was a major setback for the Shivakumar government, which came to power on Wednesday. The Union cabinet has approved a ₹10,000 crore fund to shield airlines from volatility in the price of jet fuel even as it offsets losses that fuel sellers incur. The announcement comes at a time when the aviation sector has been impacted by unprecedented volatility in global ATF prices due to the West Asia crisis. (Bloomberg) The one-time budgetary support of ₹10,000 crore will allow Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to provide Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) at stable prices to Indian airlines for both domestic and international operations. “The budgetary support will be in the form of interest-free advances to OMCs through the demands for grants of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). The support will be provided to OMCs to facilitate stable ATF pricing for airlines during the ongoing period of exceptional fuel price volatility arising from the West Asia crisis,” the government said. 3 min readNew DelhiJun 4, 2026 04:00 AM IST To contain vehicular emissions, which remain one of the biggest contributors to air pollution in the Capital, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a two-year ‘cleaner mobility’ scheme with an outlay of Rs 9,585 crore to replace old trucks and buses in Delhi-NCR, officials said. The scheme will seek to incentivize owners of trucks and buses that are complying with older emissions norms such as BS-IV to replace their vehicles with BS-VI or stricter emission-compliant vehicles or electric vehicles, as per an official government statement. However, government vehicles are excluded from the scheme. As per officials, state governments will waive registration fees and grant up to 100 percent motor vehicle tax concessions for new vehicles and 50 percent for used vehicles for 10 years. State governments will also waive off pending liabilities on the old vehicles participating in the scheme, they added. The Centre will provide 5 percent interest subvention on loans for five years, monthly fuel vouchers worth up to Rs 4,800 depending on vehicle …

File | Photo Credit: ANI The Gujarat Cabinet on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) granted in-principle approval to the ambitious ‘Gujarat Wire-Free City Mission’, a statewide initiative aimed at shifting overhead electricity distribution lines underground across urban areas by 2030. Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, government spokesperson and Minister Jitu Vaghani said the project is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing smart, green and resilient cities. Under the mission, all 17 municipal corporations and 151 municipalities in Gujarat will be covered in a phased manner. The State Government has approved an initial allocation of ₹500 crore for the first phase of implementation. According to the government, the project will involve the undergrounding of more than 14,600 circuit kilometres of high-tension (HT) overhead power lines and over 31,400 circuit kilometres of low-tension (LT) distribution lines across urban areas. The first phase will focus on converting existing 11 kV overhead electricity lines into underground cable networks. The undergrounding of low-tension distribution lines …
