Running between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Pune, the Deccan Queen, fondly known as Dakkhan chi Rani (Queen of the Deccan), is not just a daily commuter favourite but a moving piece of railway history. Introduced on June 1, 1930, by the Great Indian Peninsula (GIP) Railway, a precursor to Indian Railways, the Deccan Queen remains the only running passenger train in India with a dedicated dining car offering table service, setting it apart from an era of packaged, seat-delivered meals. Last month on March 27 the Central Railway unveiled a newly refurbished dining car fitted with improved interiors, modern furniture, and design elements inspired by traditional themes such as Warli art, blending heritage, aesthetics and modern comfort. Workers union strike to protest FIR against CR engineers brings trains to a halt at CSMT | Mumbai News

Passengers were left in the lurch as several trains were halted at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus (CSMT) during peak travel hours on Thursday evening as the Central Railway’s worker unions called a flash strike for an hour to protest against the Government Railway Police’s (GRP) FIR against two engineers. On November 1, the Government Railway Police (GRP)—citing a report by Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) and its own officers—registered an FIR against two Central Railway (CR) engineers and other seniors in connection with the Mumbra train accident that caused five deaths in June this year. Detailing six reasons behind the action, the FIR stated that the accident occurred due to the failure of the railway officials to carry out the maintenance work on the railway track, despite the awareness that the incoming and outgoing trains could come close to each other and cause an accident, resulting in loss of life and property. As the FIR came to light, the Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh (CRMS) on Wednesday announced that they would hold a protest on Thursday …

These platforms currently accommodate 12-car trains. “Once the building is razed, tracks will be shifted and platforms extended,” said a railway official. “The office space and technical set-up for the signalling system inside this building has been shifted to a location at the end of platform 18, at the CSMT terminus,” he added. The project has received the necessary clearances but a tender is yet to be floated for the demolition. “After the building is razed, we will be able to extend platforms 5 and 6 to accommodate 15-car trains. Inclusion of north-bound trains in timetable irks Konkan passengers | Mumbai news

Mumbai: The inclusion of two north India-bound special trains from Dadar in the latest issue of ‘Trains At a Glance’, the official timetable of the Indian Railways, has irked travellers to Maharashtra’s Konkan region, who have been seeking extension of the Diva-Ratnagiri passenger train till Dadar for several years. Inclusion of north-bound trains in timetable irks Konkan passengers On Wednesday, a delegation of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) met Central Railway (CR) officials to press on the demand and were assured of swift action. With polls to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other civic bodies scheduled later this year, the issue is likely to be further politicised. The two north India-bound special trains – between Dadar and Ballia, and Dadar and Gorakhpur – were started during the pandemic, but were not included in the official timetable as authorities were not sure of their demand and occupancy rates, CR officials told Hindustan Times. “This is standard practice in the railways – special trains are added to the timetable only after running regularly for a …
