CR`s Solapur Division completes future-ready upgrades at Tikekarwad

The Solapur Division of Central Railway has successfully completed a major infrastructure upgrade at Tikekarwadi station yard, aimed at improving safety, increasing capacity and enhancing overall operational efficiency.

The works were carried out during recently completed traffic blocks and form part of the division`s ongoing efforts to modernise railway infrastructure and prepare for future growth in passenger and freight traffic.

One of the key improvements is the commissioning of a modern Electronic Interlocking system, replacing the older Panel Interlocking arrangement.

The new system improves safety by reducing the possibility of human error and ensuring safer and more reliable train movements within the station yard.

Extended lines to handle longer trains

The station`s operational lines have been extended to accommodate longer passenger and freight trains.

This enhancement will increase capacity, ease congestion and help meet the growing demand for rail transport in the region.

The yard layout has been redesigned and optimised to allow quicker reception and dispatch of trains.

Railway officials said the changes are expected to reduce train detention time and improve punctuality across services passing through the station.

Better signalling and track infra

Additional shunting signals and upgraded signalling infrastructure have been installed to enable more efficient management of train movements within the yard.

At the same time, critical track components have been upgraded with modern high-capacity switches and improved track arrangements. These improvements are expected to make train operations smoother and reduce the risk of operational failures and delays.

A dedicated ballast and freight-handling siding has also been extended and strengthened.

The upgraded facility will allow faster movement and handling of freight and railway materials, benefiting industrial and commercial activities in the surrounding region.

Station prepared for future growth

Track spacing and station infrastructure have been improved in line with modern railway standards.

These changes will enhance safety while creating additional capacity for future expansion and increasing train traffic.

A range of modern railway equipment and machinery was deployed during the work, including UNIMAT track tamping machines, rail cranes, hydraulic track jacks, rail cutting and drilling machines, tower wagons and specialised tools for overhead equipment works.

Safety and coordination during the project were supported through the use of walkie-talkies, clamps, padlocks and other operational equipment.

Successful completion

The upgrade was completed through the coordinated efforts of several departments within the Solapur Division.

More than 368 personnel from the Operating, Engineering, Signalling and Telecommunication, Electrical (Traction and Distribution) and Electrical departments participated in the project.

Railway officials said the work was completed successfully within the planned block period, reflecting the division`s commitment to improving safety, reliability and capacity for both passengers and freight customers.
