Cyclone Ditwah Tracker Live Updates: As Cyclone Ditwah moves closer to the coastal region of Tamil Nadu, Chennai Airport has cancelled 47 flights scheduled for Sunday due to the anticipated heavy rain. Of the cancelled flights, 36 are domestic and 11 are international. Furthermore, the airport authorities have advised passengers travelling on Sunday to check with their respective airlines for confirmation of departure timings, as more flights may be cancelled if the cyclone intensifies. The cancelled domestic flights include 18 departing flights from Chennai to Madurai, Tiruchi, Thoothukudi, and Salem and 18 arriving flights from the same cities to Chennai. Among the international flights, six departures from Chennai to Colombo (5 flights) and Jaffna (1 flight) have been cancelled, along with five arrivals—four from Colombo and one from Jaffna. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. A break in the rain has sent the City Roads Division of the Highways Department into a tizzy. Teams of engineers and contractors are working late into the night to repair badly battered stretches, causing traffic to move at a snail’s pace. Subbulakshmi, who commutes via Anna Salai daily, said though the portion of Anna Salai near the S.I.E.T. College bus stop had been patched up recently, it had come off. The portion near the Thevar statue is filled with dust and blue metal gravel, making it unsafe for two-wheeler riders.  Sandeep, a resident of Pallavaram, said while the patchwork carried out on the down ramp of the Pallavaram grade separator was helpful to motorists, the one done near the Dargah Road subway could have been improved. Several parts of Chennai witnessed mild showers. Till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Vedaranyam, Oothu in Tirunelveli district and Valinokam in Ramanathapuram district recorded 3 cm of rainfall each. Meanwhile, Ramanathapuram, Nalumukku, Kakkachi, Thangachimadam, Parangipettai, Cuddalore Collector Office, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, and Rameswaram recorded 2 cm each. Pamban, Thoothukudi Airport, Mandapam, Manjolai, Sirkali, Adiramapattinam, Thiruvarur, Kodiayakarai, Vedharanyam, Tuticorin, Thalaignayer and Thoothukudi railway station recorded 1 cm each. Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in three districts of the state including Chengalpattu, Viluppuram and Cuddalore. Cyclone Fengal, which wreaked havoc across 14 districts of Tamil Nadu, has left over 1.5 crore individuals and 69 lakh families grappling with extensive destruction, according to the state government. On Monday, Chief Minister M K Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate relief of Rs 2,000 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund to address the disaster’s fallout. The cyclone, which began as a low-pressure system on November 23, intensified before landfall on December 1. It unleashed torrential rains and wind speed of 90 km/hour in districts such as Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, and Tiruvannamalai. Interior districts like Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Ranipet, Vellore and Tirupattur were also severely affected. “The cyclone has caused unprecedented devastation across 14 districts of Tamil Nadu,” Stalin said.
