Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Tourism Suresh Gopi inaugurated the coastal clean-up drives organised by Indian Coast Guard and others in Fort Kochi and Kuzhuppilly beaches on September 21. | Photo Credit: special arrangement A coastal clean-up drive was held on September 21 (Saturday) at Fort Kochi, Vypeen, Kuzhuppilly and Cherai beaches by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Headquarters (Kerala and Mahe) in coordination with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) as part of the International Coastal Clean-up Day. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Tourism Suresh Gopi inaugurated the clean-up drive at Fort Kochi and Kuzhuppilly beaches. He emphasised the importance of maintaining coastline cleanliness to protect oceans and beaches. Volunteers from the ICG, IOCL, NCC, NSS, and NGOs, State and Central government employees, teachers, and personnel of the Coastal Police and the Kerala Police also participated. Clean-up marshals fine 1,380 offenders in 3 weeks, generate penalty upto Rs 3.34 lakh | Mumbai News

The clean-up marshals, who claimed the streets of Mumbai on April 3 to crack down on people littering, spitting or soiling public places, have fined total 1,380 offenders for such violations. The civic authorities have also generated Rs 3.34 lakh in penalties from the violators with authorities stating that the most common penalty imposed is Rs 200 for littering, soiling and spitting in public spaces, as per the Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The other provisions of penalty include Rs 1,000 for washing vehicles on roads, Rs 500 for littering by pets and Rs 100 for burning garbage in the open. Besides this, the BMC can impose a fine upto Rs 1,000 if a person is found defecating in public. The civic body’s record also show that total 917 people have been penalised from A ward, which covers Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Churchgate and Colaba areas.
