4 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Apr 18, 2026 12:09 AM IST Double Paralympic gold medallist javelin thrower Sumit Antil, supported by former Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, has accused Dronacharya awardee coach Naval Singh of mental harassment and verbal abuse. In a written complaint to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sumit has mentioned verbal abuse on multiple occasions, dragging his family into it. “I trained under him (Naval) in 2018-19, but even after leaving him, he constantly abuses us verbally. He gets drunk and goes on to abuse the families of different athletes, including mine, Neeraj bhai, Navdeep, and others. He (Naval) would deliberately share recordings of his abusive rants with my manager,” Sumit told The Indian Express. “I have made this complaint only after it went beyond a certain level. Paani sar se upar aa gaya tha ji,” he added further. SAI accepted that they had received the complaint but stated that they had nothing to do with Naval Singh, and he was engaged with the Athletics Federation of India to train Sachin Yadav as …

‘I will beat the living hell out of these people’: Virat Kohli’s raging response amidst coach’s conspiracy

Virat Kohli’s mental toughness and fortitude have always stood out. The cricketing world knows how he turned up for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy the day after his father’s death and scored 90 to help save the match for his team. As it turns out, that wasn’t the only occasion where Kohli’s steely resolve came to the fore. Back in the day, when a young Kohli was setting tournaments ablaze with his batting heroics, he was subjected to unfair treatment from one of his coaches. Virat Kohli has always stood up to the challenge (AFP) Kohli was on fire during the 2005–06 Vijay Merchant Trophy for Delhi, amassing 757 runs at an impressive average of 84.11. However, did you know that one of the team’s coaches didn’t take a liking to him and even conspired against him? Kohli’s former teammate, Jagrit Anand, once recalled this fascinating incident that highlighted how a young Virat overcame the odds stacked against him. “When we were playing Under-17, we had played two seasons – Virat had scored a double …

Steve Harmison says India coach’s ‘milestone’ message was aimed at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

3 min readMar 10, 2026 07:25 PM IST Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison said he believed India head coach Gautam Gambhir’s remarks on milestones during the post-match press conference after India won the T20 World Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad were directed towards veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Harmison, with his usual sarcasm, said that he liked Gambhir’s dig at Rohit and Virat, and while he sometimes struggled with Gambhir as a player and a coach, he liked the shots being fired. “I enjoyed that from Gambhir. I thought it was a little dig at Rohit and Virat, talking about not being interested in milestones and only about the team winning… I like that. I sometimes struggle with Gautam. I did struggle with Gautam as a player and I did struggle with him as a coach. But I liked that little dig at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” said Harmison, speaking on the talkSPORT YouTube channel. “We might have everything going in our favour, but it’s about the team. It’s about the dressing room, …

How Finn Allen thrived after decluttering his mind and getting coach’s complete confidence

How Finn Allen thrived after decluttering his mind and getting coach’s complete confidence

The sun had barely risen over the Tasman Sea, nearly 12,000 kilometres away from Kolkata, when Finn Allen cracked the fastest hundred in T20 World Cup. As he scythed and muscled his way to the three-figure mark in 33 balls, his Wellington Firebirds coach Glenn Pocknail’s mind slipped back to the March of 2020. A time when the pandemic was about to rage and stop the world. “He hadn’t been playing or been selected for any domestic cricket team at the time. Then I saw him bat in a four-day match in March 2020 and immediately thought, “Wow, this guy can really play”,” he recollects to this paper. Next winter, when life lurched back to normalcy, he had little hesitation to ring him up. “That winter I spoke with Finn and asked him to come and play for the Wellington Firebirds, the domestic team I was coaching. I knew we had an opening spot at the top of the order in T20 cricket and felt he would be perfect to fill that void. He was …

Former Australia all-rounder and Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Shane Watson recently left stunned by the level of preparation by KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar for the IPL 2026 auction that concluded in Abu Dhabi and lavished praised on the Mumbaikar’s depth of knowledge about every player in the world. KKR had entered the IPL 2026 auction with the biggest purse, over 60 crore rupees, with a heavy rebuilding act to be carried out. Knight Riders made a big splash in the IPL mini auction in Abu Dhabi when they snapped up the highly-sought after Cameron Green for a whopping Rs 25.20 crore. The three-time champions, who last won the title in 2024 also snapped up New Zealand’s Finn Allen for Rs 2 crore and express pacer Matheesha Pathirana for Rs 18 crore. Soccer-Club Brugge players caught off guard by coach’s dismissal

BRUGES, Belgium, – Club Brugge captain Hans Vanaken said he and his teammates had been caught off guard by the sudden dismissal of coach Nicky Hayen on Monday, two days before their Champions League clash against Arsenal. HT Image Hayen was sacked after the club lost to St Truiden at the weekend and slipped into third place in the Belgian league. He was immediately replaced by Croatian Ivan Leko, whose club KAA Gent were unaware of his decision to leave until they read about it in the media. Vanaken said Club Brugge players had learnt after Monday training of the coach’s dismissal. “A surprise for the squad,” he told a press conference on Tuesday. “Nobody expected that. There wasn’t really a reason or anything we thought was a reason. Look, the board has made a decision and it’s up to the players to accept that. We know that in football, tough decisions are made sometimes. “Firing a coach is always unpleasant. Secretly, we’re all convinced that things could have got better in the coming months.” …

‘Don’t pick up so many fights’: Gautam Gambhir’s former teammate shares advice but says India head coach’s ‘heart in right place’ | Cricket News

After another press conference outburst where he slammed reporters and an IPL team owner post the ODI series win over South Africa, India head coach Gautam Gambhir has received some friendly advice from his old Delhi teammate, Aakash Chopra. The former India opener said that even though the India head coach has his heart in the right place, Gambhir’s fuming retorts in press conferences do not make for pleasant viewing. In a chat with reporters after India’s 2-1 ODI series win in Visakhapatnam, Gambhir hit back at his critics for the 0-2 Test debacle against the Proteas. “People said things that have nothing to do with cricket. An IPL team owner also wrote about split coaching. It’s important for people to stay in their domain. Because if we don’t go into someone’s domain, they also don’t have the right to come into our domain,” Gambhir said. Gautam Gambhir’s contradictions: In press conference post South Africa series defeat in Guwahati, India head coach’s puzzling comments | Cricket News

He perhaps doesn’t have another tone to his voice when he speaks to the media, whether in victory or defeat, but it was the good old combative version of Gautam Gambhir that turned up to the press conference on Wednesday in Guwahati. What followed over the next 14 minutes was a case study in contradictions as he tried to make sense of – as Anil Kumble put it to the broadcasters – India’s meek surrender against South Africa to lose the series 0-2. “It lies with everyone in that dressing room and starts with me to everyone in that dressing room. I’ve said it before as well that we went together, we lose together. So I’m not going to be someone who’s going to say that it lies with x, y or z.” Cliched as it might be, that’s what most coaches would say when fronting up after a damaging defeat. But after starting the press conference with these lines, at various points he’d go on to make pointed remarks about the batting collapse in …

‘If Abhishek Sharma is in form, Josh Hazlewood will be out’: Former India assistant coach’s bold claim before Australia T20I series | Cricket News

India and Australia are set to meet in a high-octane five-match T20I series Down Under, starting Wednesday, and former national team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has zeroed in on the key mini-contest for the first set of matches. Nayar picked India opener Abhishek Sharma to continue his swashbuckling form and neutralise Australia seam spearhead Josh Hazlewood, who recently troubled with match-winning spells in the ODI series. The left-handed Abhishek has been in dazzling form for India this year in T20Is and led the batting charts in the Asia Cup. In only 23 innings for the Men in Blue, the Punjab batter has pulverised oppositions with a jaw-dropping 196.07 strike rate. “If Abhishek Sharma is in form, Hazlewood will be out of form. The way he bats, he is known to hit the first ball for a four or a six. If you instil fear in the powerplay, it continues throughout the innings. That is Abhishek Sharma’s impact on the game. If he bats six overs, India will score between 60 to 80. It will ease …

“It’s In Our Control…”: Mumbai Indians Coach’s Big Remark Ahead Of Crucial Delhi Capitals Clash

“It’s In Our Control…”: Mumbai Indians Coach’s Big Remark Ahead Of Crucial Delhi Capitals Clash

Mumbai Indians were “always in contention” of making the IPL playoffs after their six-match winning run earlier in the season and the team deserves to be in a position to decide its own fate, said head coach Mahela Jayawardene on Tuesday. The five-time IPL winners will need a win against Delhi Capitals here on Wednesday to book the fourth and final spot in the playoffs, with Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings being the other three. However, a loss will mean MI will have to depend on the outcome of the contest between DC and PBKS on May 24. “We were always in contention for playoffs after we had that run. For us, it’s good to start the tournament (again) and play cricket, the guys have been waiting for this, training has been pretty good and just take one game at a time,” Jayawardene told the media during MI’s training. “It’s in our control, it’s a great position to be here. The message from me for the boys was to make …
