A portion of legendary actor Raj Kapoor’s ancestral haveli in Peshawar collapsed after heavy rains and a strong earthquake on Friday night. The century-old Kapoor haveli, declared a national heritage site in 2016, suffered structural damage after rains weakened the building, with tremors further destabilising its fragile structure. A 30-year-old man and his sister were killed after their house collapsed following a gas cylinder explosion in Varanasi’s Lahartara area on Tuesday, police said. DCP Neetu Kadyan said the incident occurred at the residence of Girija Devi, where the blast caused the structure to cave in, trapping family members under the debris.  Police, fire services and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot and, with the help of locals, rescued Girija Devi, her two sons and a daughter from the rubble. At least one person was killed while three others were critically injured after a terrace of a dilapidated building collapsed at Gurugram’s Dundahera in Sector-21 late Friday trapping them beneath for several minutes, police said on Saturday. The deceased was lying on a bed when a large chunk of concrete fell on him that resulted in instant death. (HT photo) Police officials said that at least two persons, living on rent in the building, were preparing dinner when the incident took place between 10:30pm-11pm. The two others were a man and wife riding a motorcycle and crossing through the road right in front of the building when its terrace collapsed that trapped them too. According to police, the deceased was identified as Satish Malya, 31, who hailed from Aurangabad in Bihar. A 60-foot iron bridge collapsed over a drain in North Delhi`s Roop Nagar on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a woman, officials said, reported the PTI. The incident took place when the structure gave way suddenly, causing the woman to fall into the ‘nala’ below. According to officials from the Delhi Fire Service, the victim was a woman aged around 50 who was reportedly a homeless person. She was found in the drain after the collapse and was declared dead at the scene. The Delhi Fire Service received a call about the incident at approximately 9:30 am, following which several fire tenders were dispatched to the site, according to the PTI. Rescue operations were carried out by multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Police, and other emergency teams. The police were in the process of registering an offence against the organisers. The incident took place on the premises of Royal Palms, a privately owned event venue located on Koregaon Park Mundhwa Road. Police said that a formal permission for the event had been sought by the organisers from the Pune police commissioner office and was granted to them. A section of the railway overbridge on National Highway 45 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, collapsed during ongoing maintenance work on Sunday. Jodhpur, A six-year-old girl died after a “makeshift” blackboard and parts of the supporting structure allegedly collapsed on her at a private senior secondary school in Jalore district on Friday afternoon, police said. 6-year-old killed in shoddy classroom in Jalore as ‘makeshift’ blackboard collapses; operator absconding The incident took place at Marudhar Shikshan Sansthan in Bawatra village under the Sayla police station area, they said, adding that the school operator is allegedly absconding following the accident. According to locals, the school was constructed about five to six years ago after purchasing the land. The structure had been constructed by stacking cement bricks against a brick wall. Shillong Lok Sabha member Ricky AJ Syngkon died at a hospital on Thursday evening, shortly after he collapsed while playing at a futsal ground in Mawiong on the outskirts of Shillong. He was 54.
