NEET 2027 to be held in Computer Based Test mode: Education min Dharmendra Pradhan

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate or NEET-UG will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode from next year instead of pen paper test (PPT) mode in which students answer the questions in a Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Friday. Pradhan said that the admit card for re-examination of NEET will be released by June 14. (ANI photo) In his first statement after NTA on May 12 cancelled NEET-UG 2026 (held on May 3) following paper leak allegations, Pradhan said that candidates will get 15 extra minutes to write their re-examination of NEET on June 21. He also said that the government is taking responsibility for a “breach in command” despite following recommendations of the Radhakrishnan committee – a seven member committee set up after the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak controversy to strengthen NTA. Pradhan said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will “go deep” into the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak matter and “no one will be spared this time. No …

Punjab Computer Teachers Oppose Non-Teaching Duties During Exams

2 min readLudhianaMar 2, 2026 10:36 PM IST The Computer Teachers’ Union and the Computer Teachers’ Struggle Committee, Ludhiana, on Monday alleged that non-teaching duties were being “imposed on them by the administration, that too during final exams, under the Punjab government’s newly launched health insurance scheme ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana‘. A joint delegation of both unions met Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, ADC (General) Poonam Singh, District Education Officer Dimple Madan, and submitted a memorandum, held a detailed discussion on the matter, and demanded immediate rollback of the order. During the meeting, union representatives highlighted concerns of the teaching community, reminding the administration of their previous assurances, stating, “Even as the Punjab government assured that non-teaching works won’t be give to teachers, the ground reality is opposite.” The computer teachers demanded that “non-teaching duties should not be assigned to teaching staff during the ongoing examination period, so that teachers could fully concentrate on their primary academic responsibilities”. The delegation stated that on February 3, the deputy commissioner assured them that the duties assigned …

Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana: Computer teachers not to be deployed at enrolment camps

Days after the Punjab department of health and family welfare issued directions to deploy computer teachers along with other staff for the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana enrolment camps, the district education officials have been instructed not to assign such duties to teachers. The Punjab government had launched the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana on January 22 to provide free cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh to every family in the state. (HT File Photo) The decision follows protests by teachers in Mansa. Teachers in other districts of Punjab also objected to the assigned duties and even submitted demand letters to the respective district administrations. Allegations had also surfaced regarding the use of school machinery, including computers and printers, for the camps despite the impending practical and final exams. The health department’s directions had come under intense scrutiny as teachers were assigned non-academic duties amid the state government’s promise to keep them focused on education. Confirming the development, Barnala district education officer (secondary) Suneetinder Singh said, “We received a call from the state education department directing …

How AI models might change the way you use your computer

How AI models might change the way you use your computer

If all you want is a way to talk to ChatGPT, you’re practically spoiled for choice — there are countless ways to chat with the bots, and seemingly countless new ones every single day. But that’s not the whole story of how we’ll interact with large language models. It better not be. Thomas Paul Mann, CEO and cofounder of the app Raycast, has a much bigger vision for what an AI app might do. Raycast is many things: it’s an app launcher, it’s a way to search and interact with the files on your computer, it’s a note-taking app, and, yes, it’s yet another way to talk to ChatGPT and other LLMs. Because it has so much access to your data and your device, though, Raycast can use these AI models to actually do things on your behalf. Agentic AI, baby! Only this time, with even more potential — for better and for worse. On this episode of The Vergecast, the first in our two-part series about how developers are using AI and integrating it …

How to Turn Off the Voice Assistant on Your Computer

How to Turn Off the Voice Assistant on Your Computer

Siri, Google Assistant, and Microsoft Copilot respond to voice commands, allowing you to perform tasks such as opening an app, scheduling a meeting, setting a reminder, playing or pausing music, or requesting information. However, there are also situations when you will need to know how to turn off these voice assistants. For instance, in public settings such as open offices, coffee shops, or airports, it may not be appropriate to talk to your computer or rely on virtual assistants. There are also situations when you want to conserve battery life, which is consumed by an active microphone. Alternatively, it might be quicker to use your keyboard rather than your voice for many tasks. In any of these cases, disabling voice control can provide more privacy and increase the performance of your computer or device. Follow these simple steps to turn off your computer’s voice assistant. How to turn off Siri on macOS You can turn off Siri on a macOS system using the following steps. Select the Apple Menu (typically in the upper-left corner), then …

A Useful Quantum Computer Within 10 Years? DARPA, 2 Australian Startups & More Are Working On It

Andrew Dzurak, founder and CEO of Australian startup Diraq, holds one of the company’s projects. Image credit: Diraq DARPA has awarded two Australian startups, Diraq and Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC), contracts for quantum computing research, the U.S. agency announced on April 4. Both Sydney-based companies will participate in the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) program, designed to assess other companies to find which might have the potential to reach useful quantum computing within the next decade. “For the chosen companies, now the real work begins,” said Joe Altepeter, DARPA QBI program manager, in a press release. “Stage A is a six-month sprint in which they’ll provide comprehensive technical details of their concepts to show that they hold water and could plausibly lead to a transformative, fault-tolerant quantum computer in under 10 years.” Useful quantum computing (or utility-scale operation) is defined as a method in which computational value exceeds the build and operational costs. Diraq teams up with other companies to manufacture quantum chips Diraq entered into the QBI its silicon spin qubits approach to quantum computing, …

Computer History Museum Releases Original AlexNet Code

Image: seventyfourimages/Envato Elements AlexNet, which was released in 2012, is widely credited with sparking the modern AI revolution, particularly in the field of computer vision. Last week, the Computer History Museum in collaboration with Google made the source code for AlexNet publicly available on GitHub; this move gives researchers, developers, and AI enthusiasts a chance to dive into the foundational code that helped shape today’s AI landscape. What is AlexNet, and why does it matter? AlexNet was the deep-learning model that proved neural networks could significantly outperform traditional image recognition methods. Developed by Alex Krizhevsky, Ilya Sutskever, and their advisor Geoffrey Hinton at the University of Toronto, the model leveraged deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to classify images with unprecedented accuracy. The secret to AlexNet’s success wasn’t just its architecture — it was also the massive dataset (ImageNet) it was trained on and the use of GPUs for acceleration. At the time, neural networks were considered impractical due to high computational demands, but by harnessing NVIDIA’s CUDA-enabled GPUs, AlexNet changed that perception. When it entered …
