Which Indian IT major can step forward to help this computer engineer – one of their own – make it to the Olympics? | Badminton News

The Stanfords, Princetons, Harvards have been shaping Olympic champions for quite some time now. India’s done alright by its engineers largely, but not quite taken a truly geeky athlete right up to the Olympics in recent years. Along comes Malvika Bansod, a badminton player who took her time to find a foot-hold on the elite international circuit, because she was straddling computer engineering alongside – the curse of being a bright student, growing up in Nagpur. But the 23-year-old had a grandfather who was nutty about badminton, and asked his granddaughter to not stop pursuing excellence on the court. This last week, Malvika recorded her second Top 15 victory at the All England. She had earlier defeated Paris Olympics bronze medallist Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in China. She can be dubbed a late bloomer, given at 23, she isn’t quite entrenched on the Tour as Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu were, having won the Olympics and World Championship medals before turning 25. Malvika’s dentist mother, has taken up the responsibility of arming herself with domain knowledge …

How to Add Fingerprint Authentication to Your Windows 11 Computer

If you’ve recently purchased or received a Windows 11 computer, one of the first things I recommend you do is to add fingerprint authentication as one of your sign-in options. This provides your computer or laptop with an additional layer of security and makes the login process much faster than a regular password. While Windows machines can vary in how fingerprint authentication is implemented, setting up fingerprint logins is more or less consistent across all computers running Windows 11. In this article, I will show you how to add fingerprint authentication to your Windows 11 computer, answer some frequently asked questions, and provide a few benefits of fingerprint unlock for your machine. Gujarat man chops off finger to avoid working as computer operator in kin’s firm

In a bizarre incident, a man chopped off four fingers of his left hand with a sharp knife to make himself unfit for his job as a computer operator at his kin’s diamond firm, police in Gujarat’s Surat city said on Saturday (December 14, 2024). Mayur Tarapara (32) had earlier told police a story about finding his fingers missing after falling unconscious by the side of a road, though a probe into the chain of events revealed that the harm was self-inflicted, the officials added. In a statement, Surat Crime Branch said Tarapara took this step as he did not have courage to tell his kin that he no longer wanted work at his firm Anabh Gems, located in Varachha Mini Bazaar. The victim works as a computer operator in the accounts department at this firm and loss of fingers would have made him unfit for the job, the statement pointed out. Earlier, Mr. Tarapara had told police that he was on his way to a friend’s house on December 8 on a motorcycle when …

Saurabh Shukla, who is best known for his role as Kallu Mama in Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya, is one of the finest actors in Hindi cinema. The celebrated artist got his big break in RGV’s 1998 film for which he also co-wrote the script. Jolly LLB actor Saurabh Shukla recently revealed that he stopped considering himself an actor post-Satya. Shukla remembered that he would spend hours working on his computer. During his exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Saurabh Shukla reminisced about his journey after featuring as Kallu Mama in Satya. Shukla recalled that he wasn’t being offered meaty roles and decided not to act for some time. Talking about the period from 1998 to 2011, Shukla recounted, “Is period ke beech mein 6 saal ka aisa mera time tha (I was going through a phase that continued for six years) when I started telling people that I am not an actor, I don’t act. I am a writer. I don’t want to act. Because I didn’t like what they were offering.” Shukla added that he would sit in his study …

Claude 3.5 Sonnet Can Control Your Computer

Claude 3.5 Sonnet Can Control Your Computer

Anthropic has unveiled a major update to its Claude AI models, including the new “Computer Use” feature. Developers can direct the upgraded Claude 3.5 Sonnet to navigate desktop apps, move cursors, click buttons, and type text — essentially imitating a person working at their PC. “Instead of making specific tools to help Claude complete individual tasks, we’re teaching it general computer skills—allowing it to use a wide range of standard tools and software programs designed for people,” the company wrote in a blog post. The Computer Use API can be integrated to translate text prompts into computer commands, with Anthropic giving examples like, “use data from my computer and online to fill out this form” and “move the cursor to open a web browser.” This is the first AI model from the AI leader that is able to browse the web. The update works by analysing screenshots of what the user is seeing then calculating how many pixels it needs to move a cursor vertically or horizontally to click the correct place or perform another …

Google’s 67-Qubit Sycamore Quantum Computer Could Beat Top Supercomputers: Study

Google’s 67-Qubit Sycamore Quantum Computer Could Beat Top Supercomputers: Study

Recent advancements in quantum computing have revealed that Google’s 67-qubit Sycamore processor can outperform the fastest classical supercomputers. This breakthrough, detailed in a study published in Nature on October 9, 2024, indicates a new phase in quantum computation known as the “weak noise phase.” Understanding the Weak Noise Phase The research, spearheaded by Alexis Morvan at Google Quantum AI, demonstrates how quantum processors can enter this stable computationally complex phase. During this phase, the Sycamore chip is capable of executing calculations that exceed the performance capabilities of traditional supercomputers. According to Google representatives, this discovery represents a significant step towards real-world applications for quantum technology that cannot be replicated by classical computers. The Role of Qubits in Quantum Computing Quantum computers leverage qubits, which harness the principles of quantum mechanics to perform calculations in parallel. This contrasts sharply with classical computing, where bits process information sequentially. The exponential power of qubits allows quantum machines to solve problems in seconds that would take classical computers thousands of years. However, qubits are highly sensitive to interference, leading …
