Conrad Sangma’s Party To Support NDA Candidates in Nagaland, Manipur

Conrad Sangma said NDA partners are supporting each other in the northeast. Guwahati: The National People’s Party, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, has announced that it would support the Lok Sabha candidate of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland and the Naga People’s Front (NPF) nominee in Manipur. NPP national chief Sangma, after meeting Nagaland Chief Minister and senior NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio, said his party would support NDPP candidate Chumben Murry for the lone Nagaland seat. Mr Murry is the consensus candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), which leads Nagaland’s multi-party coalition government. The NPP would also support NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik in the Outer Manipur seat, Mr Sangma told the media. His party, he added, would support BJP nominees in two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh — Union Minister Kiren Rijiju (Arunachal West) and Tapir Gao (Arunachal East). Meghalaya Performed Well in Several Aspects in Last Few Years: CM Sangma

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday listed a host of areas in which the state has excelled over the last few years, including digital governance, rural tourism, immunisation programmes and coverage of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Speaking at a public meeting on the occasion of North East Council’s golden jubilee here, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present, Sangma said Meghalaya’s coverage of the Jal Jeevan Mission has increased from just 4,500 households in 2019 to almost 2.75 lakh households today. The CM said the United Nations has awarded the state for bringing reforms in digital governance and development of rural tourism. “We were also ranked as the top-performing state alongside Gujarat and Karnataka in the National Startup Ranking Framework 2021,” he said. On immunisation of small children, he said Meghalaya has risen from being “first from the bottom” to be among the “top three states” with a coverage of 90 per cent. High Court orders interim stay on Assam-Meghalaya border pact

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma had in March signed an MoU for demarcating the border in at least six of the 12 contested locations that often raised tensions between the two States. Justice H. S. Thangkhiew ordered the interim stay till the next date of hearing on February 6, 2023, on a petition filed by four ‘traditional chiefs’ of Meghalaya. “It is however understood that during the intervening period, no physical demarcation or erection of boundary posts on the ground, pursuant to the MoU dated 29.03.2022 shall be carried out, till the next date,” Justice Thangkhiew said.
