Addressing a press conference here on Sunday (March 22), Dr. Narayana alleged that the conflict driven by the United States and Israel is aimed at controlling oil resources and boosting corporate profits. Security forces in Odisha have intensified their final push to either eliminate the remaining cadres or compel their surrender, launching a hot pursuit of Sukru alias Krishna, a State Committee Member who is leading the last small group of CPI (Maoist) operatives in the State. For the past three days, security forces, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Odisha Police, have been combing the Kandhamal district following actionable intelligence on Sukru’s presence. “Sukru, who carries a bounty of ₹65 lakh on his head, has grown increasingly desperate to keep his flock together amid mounting pressure on cadres to surrender. In fact, more than 50 cadres, including State Committee Members, have laid down their arms since November last year,” said a senior police officer. CPI Rajya Sabha MP P Santhosh Kumar on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing strong opposition to the latest Economic Survey that called for a re-examination of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. The Economic Survey on Thursday made a strong case for re-examining the nearly two-decade-old RTI law to exempt confidential reports and draft comments from disclosures, saying such provisions constrain governance. In its December 2025 monetary policy, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revised its inflation estimate for FY26 from 2.6 per cent to 2 per cent, owing to a good kharif harvest and healthy rabi sowing. It has also projected headline inflation for Q1 and Q2 of FY27 at 3.9 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected an inflation rate of 2.8 per cent in FY26 and 4 per cent in FY27. “India’s inflation rate – headline and core excluding precious metals – will likely be higher in FY27 than in FY26. However, we believe it is unlikely to be a concern,” the Survey stated. The Statistics Ministry will make public the weights of each item that will be part of the new Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket before the first retail inflation data is released on February 12. “Economists have asked for the weights to be provided before the inflation number comes, so that they can make their forecasts. So, the item weights will be released a week or so in advance,” a source said on the condition of anonymity. A second person aware of the matter said the weights of each item had been finalised apart from a few possible minor adjustments and were likely to be made public in the first week of February 2026. The weights of various items in the CPI basket are key to how the headline inflation rate moves as that is the weighted average of the year-on-year change in price of each item. For instance, ‘gold’ and ‘silver’ together account for just 1.19 per cent of the CPI at present, but even this small weight has been more than enough for the …
