Jabalpur tragedy: MP tourism boat sailed despite yellow alert, life jackets locked below deck

Survivors of the Bargi Dam boat capsize said on Friday that the Narmada Queen was allowed to sail despite a storm alert from the weather department, and that no passengers had been made to wear life-jackets before boarding — as rescue teams continued to search for the missing a day after the accident that killed at least nine people with six still unaccounted for. Rescue personnel and locals gather as an excavator retrieves the wreckage of a cruise boat that capsized at the Bargi Dam reservoir, in Jabalpur on Friday. (ANI) The Narmada Queen, a 90-passenger vessel operated by the MP Tourism Department and in service since 2006, was carrying over 40 tourists when a violent storm struck at around 6pm on Thursday. Chief minister Mohan Yadav said 29 tickets had been issued but a local rescuer said several more were allowed to board because it was the day’s last ride. Rajesh Soni, a survivor who was on board with three family members, said weather alerts should have stopped the boat from sailing. “Despite that …

Valve’s huge Steam Deck update is now ready for everyone, including rival AMD handhelds

Valve’s huge Steam Deck update is now ready for everyone, including rival AMD handhelds

Valve has been building up to this for months, first in preview, then beta, and now finally in a full stable release: a new version of SteamOS that brings brand new features to the Steam Deck and supports third-party handhelds like Lenovo’s Legion Go and Asus’s ROG Ally series. Until now, those who wanted to try SteamOS on those Windows handhelds could shoehorn the Steam Deck’s original recovery image onto their device, or opt for a similar experience like Bazzite. But now, Valve explicitly provides instructions for getting that image working on a Legion Go or ROG Ally, even as it warns that “support for all devices that is not officially ‘Powered by SteamOS’ is not final.” But even if you don’t care about rival handhelds, SteamOS 3.7 has a lot of improvements for the Steam Deck. I’ve been asking Valve to let me use my Bluetooth earbuds’ microphone since launch, and it’s finally happening in desktop mode (sadly not gaming mode yet) thanks to HFP/HSP profiles. You can turn on your Steam Deck LCD …

Elgato is letting you stick a Stream Deck on anything

Elgato announced a new “Stream Deck Everywhere” strategy at Computex, which includes a software-based virtual Stream Deck for PCs, an ethernet dock accessory, unbranded Stream Deck modules that can bring its keys into other products, and even new scissor-switch keys for a more precise, keyboard-like feel. “With these launches, we’re opening up Stream Deck to a world of new users, from developers and DIY builders to manufacturers seeking a field-proven interface for their products,” said Elgato general manager Julian Fest. “Because Stream Deck isn’t just a device—it’s a platform. Stream Deck Modules are designed for hobbyists and manufacturers to easily integrate into hardware projects instead of ripping apart the consumer version or developing their own custom macropad solutions. The modules are available in 6-, 15-, and 32-key variants and are housed in an aluminum chassis that can be built into custom bases, machines, and furniture, making it possible to actually create Elgato’s ridiculous 1,262-key April Fools’ desk. The Stream Deck Modules are available now starting at $49.99 for the six-key version, $129.99 for the 15-key, …

Valve fixes Steam Deck update that caused boot loops

Valve fixes Steam Deck update that caused boot loops

Valve has issued a corrective update to the Steam client for its Steam Deck gaming handhelds, after an earlier version left some devices stuck in boot loops and broke performance settings. The initial update reached the Steam Deck’s stable channel despite warnings from beta testers about the problems. The problems were caused by a Steam Deck client update released on April 1st, shortly after a general SteamOS update to version 3.6.24 the day before. The client update was intended to fix a variety of minor issues, improve download performance, and resolve some problems with DualSense controllers, but owners took to Reddit and GitHub to report new issues including boot loops and the disappearance of settings to control GPU clock speed and TDP.
