Hyderabad to host Archery Premier League season 2

Hyderabad is set to become the center of the archery world this October as the Archery Premier League (APL) arrives in the City of Pearls for its second season. From October 8 to 18, People’s Plaza on Necklace Road will host eleven days of elite competition, bringing together six franchise teams and many of the world’s finest archers for a sporting spectacle. Initiated by the Archery Association of India (AAI), and backed by the Government of Telangana, Season 2 builds on the success of a landmark inaugural edition in New Delhi last year. The league will once again bring Olympic champions, world champions, world number ones, and some of the biggest names in archery to Indian shores, as Hyderabad prepares to host a world-class sporting spectacle. India set to field a revamped 16-member squad- Preview

A revamped 16-member Indian archery squad will be in action at the third stage of the 2026 Archery World Cup season in Antalya, Turkiye, from June 9 to 14. Youngsters Kirti Sharma and T Ganesh Mani Ratnam will make their World Cup debuts in Antalya as they look to begin an important season on a high. They will be joined by star archers Deepika Kumari, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, forming a good mix of youth and experience. 2 min readMay 18, 2026 10:18 PM IST Two big names of Indian archery, Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das, won’t be participating in the upcoming Asian Games as the experienced veterans lost to younger compatriots in the selection trials conducted by the Archery Association of India at the SAI NCOE in Sonepat. AAI has shortlisted top three archers from each category to represent India at the Asian Games scheduled from 19th September to 4th October. Both Deepika and Atanu finished fourth in their respective women’s and men’s recurve archery category. While they won’t go to the Asian Games, the duo will be going to the next two stages of World Cups. The World Cup Stage 3 will be held in Antalya (Turkey) from June 9-14, and Stage 4 is scheduled for July 7-12 in Madrid (Spain). Seasoned archers, including Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari and Abhishek Verma, were outperformed by younger rivals in the high-intensity selection trials conducted by the Archery Association of India at the SAI NCOE Sonepat on Monday. A strong 16-member Indian Archery team is set to begin their campaign at the second stage of the Archery World Cup in Shanghai from May 5-10. The competition in Shanghai will follow a structured schedule spread over five days starting with the compound archery qualification rounds on May 5, followed by recurve qualification on May 6. The elimination rounds for compound events are scheduled for May 7 with final on May 9. Similarly, recurve eliminations will be held on May 8 and finals on May 10. The second leg will see participation from over 300 archers from 44 countries as most Asian countries field strong teams with an eye on the Asian Games scheduled later this year. Indian recurve archers had a poor start to the outdoor season, as none of the three teams was able to reach the semi-finals at Archery World Cup Stage-1 in Puebla, Mexico, on Thursday. The Indian recurve team of Yashdeep Bhoge, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai, knocked out in the first round, losing in straight sets to Spain. On the other hand, the Indian women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Simranjeet Kaur, and Kumkum Mohod had a winning start, 5-1 over Great Britain. But they also fell short in the very next match against the second seed Turkiye in the quarterfinals, losing 4-5 in a shoot-off, where India scored 25 in reply to Turkiye’s 29.
