The Delhi court that acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last week, stated that the allegations against him were political in nature on Sunday. Brij Bhushan and his aide Vinod Tomar were on trial for a sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers. The FIR was registered only after the Supreme Court’s intervention in May 2023. A Delhi court on Monday reserved its order on the quantum of sentence to be imposed on former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain and four others convicted in the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.  Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Praveen Singh of the Karkardooma Court said it would pronounce the order on July 31 after hearing detailed submissions from the prosecution and the defence on the question of sentence.  Seeking the maximum punishment, Delhi Police urged the court to award the death penalty, describing Sharma’s killing as a “cold-blooded” and “brutal” murder, arguing that the 51 injuries found on his body reflected the extreme brutality of the assault.  The prosecution argued that those now seeking mercy had shown none to the victim, claiming that no one attempted to take Sharma to a hospital after the assault. “Those who want mercy should also show mercy. Hussain, who was suspended by the AAP soon after the incident, has been convicted of murder and rioting, among other charges. He was, however, acquitted of the criminal conspiracy charge. A Delhi court on Monday extended the judicial custody of 10 accused in the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until July 11. The accused were produced before the Rouse Avenue Court through video conferencing after the expiry of their earlier period of judicial custody. The court extended the judicial custody of Yash Yadav, Mangilal Biwal, Dinesh Biwal, Vikas Biwal, Dhananjay Lokhande, Tejas Harshad Shah, Shubham Khairnar, Manisha Waghmare, Manisha Sanjay Havaldar, and Dr Manoj Shirure till July 11. Court allows continued investigation Earlier, on June 15, the Rouse Avenue Court had extended the judicial custody of the 10 accused till June 29. The court had also permitted the CBI to interrogate accused Shubham Khairnar, Manisha Waghmare, and Dhananjay Lokhande inside the jail on June 17, 18, and 19, respectively, for one hour each as part of the ongoing investigation.
