Three people, including a woman’s husband and mother-in-law, have been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to murder her by throwing her off a second-floor balcony following a dispute over dowry demands in southeast Delhi, police said on Tuesday. The convicts were identified as Amir Khan, his mother Nasrin and his brother Sonu alias Firoz. The case pertains to an incident reported in the Kalindi Kunj area in February 2022. According to police, the woman had alleged that she was subjected to continuous cruelty and harassment over dowry demands by her husband and his family members. A Delhi court extended the CBI custody of accused Manisha Sanjay Hawaldar by two more days and remanded another accused, Manisha Mandhare, to 14 days` judicial custody in the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case. Special Judge Ajay Gupta passed the order while hearing the CBl`s plea seeking further custodial interrogation of the accused. The agency told the court that Hawaldar, empanelled as a physics translator by the National Testing Agency (NTA), had allegedly conspired with others to unauthorisedly retain and distribute the NEET-UG question paper for monetary gains. Special Public Prosecutor V K Pathak submitted that Hawaldar`s custodial interrogation was necessary to identify other persons allegedly involved in the conspiracy and to further investigate the case. Opposing the plea, Hawaldar`s counsel argued that she had been arrested on May 22 and had cooperated with the investigation, contending there was no need for further police custody. A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to I-PAC co-founder and director Vinesh Chandel in a money laundering case linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal. Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal noted that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has not opposed the bail plea. Earlier on April 14, the court had allowed the ED to quiz Chandel in its custody for 10 days, saying there are reasons to believe that he was actively involved in processes and activities connected with the generation, diversion and possession of proceeds of crime worth several crores. A Delhi court on Tuesday sentenced two Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers — a joint director and an inspector — to three months’ imprisonment each for conducting an illegal search and arrest at the residence of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer 26 years ago. The officers will not be sent to prison immediately, as the court suspended the sentence for one month (Photo for representation) Delivering the sentence, judicial magistrate first class Shashank Nandan Bhatt of Tis Hazari courts observed that public servants cannot be permitted to abuse their powers to settle personal scores. The court had on April 18 convicted the two officers — present joint director Ramneesh and VK Pandey, then a CBI inspector — under penal provisions related to house trespass, mischief and voluntarily causing hurt, for forcibly entering the IRS officer’s Paschim Vihar residence to carry out a “mala fide” search and arrest.
