Delhi Police on Thursday dismissed reports suggesting that it had been granted powers under the National Security Act (NSA) to detain protesters participating in ongoing demonstrations over exam paper leaks in the national capital, clarifying that the order is a routine administrative renewal that has been in force for years.  Significantly, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi had issued an order on July 15, under Section 3(3) of the National Security Act (NSA), 1980. The order empowered the Delhi Police Commissioner to exercise powers under the NSA from July 19, 2026, to October 18, 2026. Delhi L-G VK Saxena visits Rohini forensic science lab | Delhi News

Delhi L-G V K Saxena on Monday visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini to review the lab’s infrastructure and workflow processes, among others. According to sources, the key focus of the visit was to examine capacity building to ensure time bound disposal of POCSO cases. During the visit, Saxena undertook a comprehensive review of the lab’s infrastructure and workflow processes, among others. He also spoke with senior officials and scientists to assess requirements and challenges faced by them. Further, the visit also focused on identifying bottlenecks for enhancing efficiency and to ensure that the laboratory was fully prepared to meet the increased forensic workload in view of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The BNSS makes forensic investigation mandatory for offences punishable with seven years of imprisonment or more. Earlier, there were no statutory requirements on crime scene management, and the practice for evidence collection varied across states. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Wednesday directed the DDA to begin the process of surveying and identifying potential sites for the development of ropeways/cableways across the Yamuna, a statement from Raj Niwas said. The LG has instructed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to submit a preliminary report on this matter within a month, it added. Once operational, the project will run at fixed hours from morning until night, with cable cars that can carry approximately 50 passengers each across the Yamuna. The DDA, which owns the floodplains, will select sites near metro stations on both banks of the river where the installations will be set up, without encroaching on or concretising the floodplain, the statement said.
