Delhi L-G V K Saxena on Monday visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini to review the lab’s infrastructure and workflow processes, among others.
According to sources, the key focus of the visit was to examine capacity building to ensure time bound disposal of POCSO cases.
During the visit, Saxena undertook a comprehensive review of the lab’s infrastructure and workflow processes, among others. He also spoke with senior officials and scientists to assess requirements and challenges faced by them.
Further, the visit also focused on identifying bottlenecks for enhancing efficiency and to ensure that the laboratory was fully prepared to meet the increased forensic workload in view of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
The BNSS makes forensic investigation mandatory for offences punishable with seven years of imprisonment or more. Earlier, there were no statutory requirements on crime scene management, and the practice for evidence collection varied across states. Due to this, the workload of Rohini Forensic Science Laboratory has increased drastically.
