SC dismisses Jharkhand govt petition in Deoghar airport case – India TV

Image Source : PTI/FILE Manoj Tiwari, Nishikant Dubey In a big relief for BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari and Nishikant Dubey, the Supreme Court has dismissed the Jharkhand government’s plea challenging the High Court’s decision to quash an FIR against them. The court ruled that state police have no role in lodging complaints for violations related to airports. The apex court held that the Aircraft Act was “a complete code” to deal with the safety and security of civil aviation and aerodromes whereas the state police could only forward probe material to the authorised officer to decide on complaining. The significant verdict came from a bench comprising Justices A S Oka and Manmohan on an appeal of the Jharkhand government. The state government had challenged the Jharkhand High Court judgement which quashed the FIR against BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Manoj Tiwari and others. Image Source : PTI PM Narendra Modi Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday left for the national capital from Jharkhand’s Deoghar in another aircraft after his IAF plane developed snag, officials told news agency PTI. The Deoghar DC said that the technical snag in PM Modi’s aircraft could not be rectified and hence, he had to fly to Delhi in another plane after delay of over 2 hours. The development comes after PM Modi was stranded at the Deoghar airport in Jharkhand for over an hour on Friday after his special aircraft developed a snag, officials said. PM Modi was supposed to fly back to New Delhi on the Indian Air Force plane after addressing a rally in Bihar’s Jamui, which is around 80 km from Deoghar, they said. The aircraft will have to stay at the Deoghar airport until the snag is fixed. New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft suffered a technical snag at Deoghar in Jharkhand this afternoon. The aircraft will now have to remain at the airport until the technical fault is fixed and an Indian Air Force plane is being sent to Deoghar from New Delhi, causing a delay in the PM’s return to the capital.  Sources said PM Modi was in the plane, which was about to take off, when the fault was detected and it was decided to stop the aircraft at Deoghar. Attempts are also being made to rectify the fault in the aircraft before the IAF plane arrives. The Prime Minister addressed two rallies in Jharkhand today on the occasion of tribal icon Birsa Munda’s anniversary, which is celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, and ahead of the second round of polling for the Assembly elections in the state on November 20.
