US ambassador Sergio Gor presents credentials to President Droupadi Murmu

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Wednesday, according to an official statement. Gor, 38, was sworn in as the US Ambassador to India in mid-November last year. The US Senate confirmed his appointment in October last year. President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday undertook a sortie onboard Indian Navy’s indigenously-built frontline submarine INS Vaghsheer on the Western seaboard. Murmu is the second President to undertake a submarine sortie. In February 2006, APJ Abdul Kalam, the former president of India, experienced a submarine sortie onboard INS Sindhu Rakshak. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi accompanied President Murmu, who is also the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, during the sortie in the Kalvari class submarine from the Karwar naval base in Karnataka, officials said. The President, donning a naval uniform, waved at naval personnel before entering the submarine. With this, she will become the second President of India to travel in a submarine after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who undertook a submarine sortie on February 13, 2006, from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Droupadi Murmu is set to script history on Thursday by becoming the first President to address the Odisha assembly during her two-day visit to the state, officials said. Murmu is scheduled to address members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm, Speaker Surama Padhy said. The President hails from Odisha, and is a former member of the assembly. Murmu will arrive at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here at 2 pm and reach the Raj Bhavan at 2.20 pm to inaugurate the Kalinga Atithi Nivas, the officials said. She was elected to the Odisha assembly from the Rairangpur seat in Mayurbhanj district twice 2000 and 2004. Padhy said Murmu will be the first President to visit and address the Odisha Assembly.
