Days after a Banaras Hindu University (BHU) study reported long-term adverse events of “special interest” in a group of over 900 people a year after they were vaccinated with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has called it a “poorly designed study” with critical flaws. The director-general of the apex medical research body has also written to the authors of the paper and the editor of the journal in which it was published, stating that it “incorrectly and misleadingly” acknowledges ICMR though the body did not offer any financial or technical support for the paper. “ICMR cannot be associated with this poorly designed study,” say the letters. Why did ICMR denounce the paper? According to ICMR, the study has four critical flaws. One, it does not have a control group of unvaccinated individuals to prove that the side-effects are indeed associated with vaccination. A group of doctors under the banner of Awaken India Movement (AIM) have raised concerns over the side effects of Covishield vaccine in the wake of pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca admitting in a U.K. court that its vaccine can cause blood clots in rare cases. Actor Matthew Perry died as a result of “the acute effects of ketamine”, the medical report said. Los Angeles: “Friends” actor Matthew Perry died from an accidental ketamine overdose, medical examiners said Friday, concluding their investigation into the death of the beloved but troubled TV star. Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the hit TV sitcom from 1994-2004, died at the age of 54, having been found unconscious in a swimming pool at his house in Los Angeles in October. He had struggled for decades with addiction to drugs, including ketamine, and related serious health issues, but had reportedly been clean for 19 months prior to his passing. “Matthew Perry’s cause of death is determined to be from the acute effects of ketamine,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office said in a statement. “Contributory factors in his death include drowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects. The report says coronary artery disease and buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder, also contributed.
