UP youth, father electrocuted by snapped power line in Ballia

A man, who cleared the sub-inspector examination, and his father died early Thursday in a village in this district after accidentally touching a broken live power line in the field where they had gone to defecate, police said. The incident took place in Sahpurwa village under Bansdih Road police station area following which villagers staged a road blockade. According to the police, Rajesh Yadav (27) and his father Janardan Yadav (58) had gone to the field around 6 am for their morning routine when Rajesh came in contact with the power line that had snapped and fallen there the previous night. As Janardan rushed to save his son, he too came in contact with the live wire and both died on the spot, officials said. Rajesh had successfully cleared the recruitment examination for the post of sub-inspector in the police department. Following the incident, villagers blocked the Ballia-Bansdih highway, disrupting traffic. Two school students were killed and seven others suffered burn injuries after a Jagannath Rath Yatra chariot came into contact with a high-tension electricity wire in Jharkhand’s Khunti district on Monday, reported the IANS. The incident occurred in the Torpa area during the annual Lord Jagannath chariot procession, officials said. The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Chandan Kumar and 17-year-old Tijeshwar Gop, both students of Shrihari Plus Two School in Torpa, the news agency reported. Some of the injured are reported to be in serious condition and are receiving treatment at different hospitals. Panic during Jagannath Rath Yatra procession According to eyewitnesses, a large number of devotees were pulling the chariot when its upper iron structure came in contact with an overhead high-voltage electricity line, as per the IANS.
